Antoine and Marie Rouland are a young Parisian couple bringing a taste of Paris to the corner of Club Street and Gemmill Lane. The classically French bistro has a relaxed village atmosphere one wouldn’t expect from the Club Street strip.
Their weekend champagne and croissants brunch is perfect for perking up on the weekend after a late Friday night, or if you’re just getting your weekend started early on Saturday morning.
It starts with a glass of Yveline Prat brut champagne, produced in batches of only 40,000 bottles a year by a French woman winemaker in champagne. It’s the perfect champagne for the morning. A traditional mix, with fine bubbles that dances elegantly on the palette.
The buttery croissants melt in between the fingers and in the mouth. Washed down with the delicious champagne, it’s a moment on the lips without a care about the hips.
What a novel way to start the day; a substantial salad with eggs, ham, walnuts and a good dressing. Ô Batignolles also serves a delicious seafood salad with grapefruit which compliments the champagne and balances the buttery croissant starter.
The brunch continues with a second course of eggs prepared ‘in every way’, all served with a lightly dressed green salad. Choices include Eggs ‘Cocotte’ with bacon and cream served in individual ramekins with toasted bread, and Eggs Benedict, poached on English muffins with ham and a rich hollandaise sauce. The set menu includes a choice of tea, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice.
The restaurant also stocks over 100 wines that they’ve sourced from independent winemakers across France, available for retail. Champagne starts from $68++ by the bottle, with wine by the bottle priced from $39++.
Champagne and Croissants Brunch is available on Saturday and Sunday from 11am – 3.30pm at $89++ inclusive of free-flow champagne, $29++ with soft drinks and only A la carte menu is also available starting from $8++.
