New Wine Shop: burgundy etc Opens in Hong Kong

Updated on February 17 2014

Central’s Pedder Building is no longer just home to A&F hunks and lusty teenage girls. Opening on the fourth floor on 11 November 2012 is burgundy etc, the latest in a series of etc wine shops opened by Altaya Group.

burgundy etc focuses on premium wines from the Burgundy region, with close to 400 labels in store and access to 1,300 references in stock. The range is diverse, from everyday wines to boutique producers, to limited production and rare labels from top estates.

The 700 square foot shop is divided into four distinct areas — Entice, Engage, Embellish and Engage — and designed in a warm, residential way by Italian architect Filippo Gabbiani of Shanghai’s Kokaistudios. Dark oak, timber panels and hammered marble creates a welcoming vibe with natural sunlight seeping through the windows.

burgundy etc is designed in a similar way to the previous etc wine shops.

“burgundy etc invites customers to escape the hectic pace of Central and enter a relaxing, stress-free environment that resembles a comfortable home,” said etc wine shops founder Paulo Pong.

Like previous etc wine shops, bordeau etc and champagne etc, burgundy etc will offer an interactive retail experience via in-store multi-touch screens, wine-tasting tables with built-in spitoons and year-round tasting events for those who’d like to learn more about wine pairing. Wine lockers will also be available for those who’d like to access their favourite wines from Central.
