Gin o’clock: Get your fix for World Gin Day in Bangkok

Updated on June 12 2015

World Negroni week was just last week, and this Saturday 13 June is World Gin Day; what better excuse for a gin-based tipple?

We’ve searched high and low throughout Bangkok to find the very best gin cocktails to quench your thirst this Saturday, in celebration of the annual homage to our favourite spirit.

After all, weekends are made for a good cocktail.

Where: Vogue Lounge

What to order: Mint Julep; a combination of

Stay for: The glamorous crowd, some incredible drink offers — with buy one get one free on all standard drinks from 5pm to 9pm every week day — and some of the coolest DJ sets in town.

Vogue Lounge, MahaNakhon Cube, 6th Floor, 96 Narathiwat Ratchanakharin Road, Silom, Bangrak, Bangkok,

Where: Smalls

What to order: Cherry Passion, a mix of 40ml of Tanqueray gin, 15ml of cherry brandy 15ml and 15 ml of lime juice.

Stay for: What’s not to stay for? Generous measures, free cocktails between 9.30pm and 10.30pm on Sundays — yep, we have a feeling we’ll still be celebrating on Sunday — and excellent jazz music.

Smalls, Soi Suan Phlu 1, Sathorn, Bangkok,

Where: Hyde & Seek Peek a boo

What to order: Negroni, a classic of Tanqueray gin, Italian vermouth and Campari that relies on the perfect mixing skills of a great barman, such as Hyde & Seek’s head barman, Nath Arj-han.

Stay for: Frequent A-list sightings and some indulgent bar snacks.
Hyde & Seek Peek a boo, Groove, CentralWorld, Rama 1 Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok,

Where: St. Regis Bar

What to order: 5th Avenue. 45ml of Tanqueray gin, 15ml Martini Rosso, 15ml Grand Marnier, a little orange juice and some strawberries — topped off with fresh fruit, make for a potent and exotic way to celebrate World Gin Day.

Stay for: The lounge-like feel of the venue. Comfy sofas, incredible views over the Royal Bangkok Sports Club and a very sophisticated vibe make this a spot that lends itself well to an afternoon of lingering and gin-drinking.

St. Regis Bar, St. Regis Hotel, 159 Rajadamri Road, Lumpinee, Bangkok,

Where: Woo Bar

What to order: Iconic gin & tonic. If you find other gin & tonics a little, well, small, this bowl-sized concoction ought to hit the spot. Get head mixologist, Khansorn ‘Jack’ Phloikamon to create one of the hotel’s signature drinks — we suggest the raspberry & thyme version… to start with.

Stay for: The young crowd, the futuristic decor and a Dj that won’t fail to get you on the dance floor.

Woo Bar, W Hotel,  North Sathorn Road, Silom, Bangkok,

Where: Vesper

What to order: A Thyme to Kill, a  Negroni barrel-aged Tanqueray gin number with thyme-infused Cointreau and La Quintyne Royal Extra Dry Vermouth served with Campari jelly, created by one of the city’s top bartenders, Colin Tait.

Stay for: Italian food inspired by the owners’ extensive travels and a new bar menu, Book of Botanicals, which makes use of herbs and fruits to create some diverse and delicious cocktail innovations.
