Fired up: Singapore’s best barbecue joints

Updated on November 30 2015

Meat is big part to most meals (though vegetarians might disagree) and we always appreciate the creativity that chefs put into our plates. But sometimes, all you need is a good piece of meat, and a grill.

Marinated in spices and tossed on a grill, meat tends to take on a smokiness and tenderness that we find hard to resist. It’s simple and tasty and that’s all that matters.

For a mouthwatering good time, we’ve rounded up 10 of our top picks for the best barbecue joints in Singapore. Get ready to get hungry.

Cook & Brew

Up on the 33rd floor, The Westin’s elegant gastro bar serves up some of the top roasted meats around. We’ve dabbled a little with different dishes, but ultimately, their roasted pork belly and barbecued turkey were some of the best we’ve tasted.

Do take note that these meats are the focus of their popular “Saturday Night Roasts.”

Oasis

With its all-you-can-eat buffet offering, Oasis is all about the options for its poolside barbecue. What’s more, all available meats from steak to seafood are sourced in a sustainable, ethical way.

We recommend the Cajun spiced sustainable market fish with lemon, lamb-rosemary sausage and Thai chicken with homemade spicy sauce.

Meatsmith

At Meatsmith, all the meats are smoked daily so you only get the best flavours. Their Australian Black Angus beef rib and 1 kg grain fed t-bone steak are a testament to their premium quality.

On a side note, Meatsmith clearly takes smoking and flavouring seriously — so much so they’ve even made smoked ice cream a thing.

Red Eye Smokehouse

At Red Eye Smokehouse you can enjoy over 30 different types of meat, all of which are smoked for hours for an intense, strong flavour. The restaurant uses traditional American-style barbecuing techniques and make all their sauces in-house.

Our pick was the US Angus Beef Brisket — their signature — with a rich flavour and melt-in-your-mouth consistency. Top it up with some traditional sides like potato salad and onion rings.

BoCHINche

The unconventional Argentinean meat BoCHINche brings to town is extremely unique in taste and goes surprisingly well with less common condiments.

Their 300g sirloin and rib eye steaks from their brunch menu are a must-try with either the horseradish or peppercorn sauce.

Charcoal Pit

On a rooftop off Robinson road is Charcoal Pit, one of the newest barbecue restaurants on this list. Aside from their delectable beef dishes and burgers, we found their signature pork cheek exceptionally savoury.

With a smoker around the back, the restaurant barbecues and brines their meat overnight, before using lychee wood instead of the standard oak or maple to give it a different taste.

Grilllo at PasarBella

Having just opened its second location at Suntec City, Pasarbella is introducing Grilllo an updated take on the familiar street food favourite — skewers.

The aim is not to mess with success, and so Grilllo is keeping things simple with quality ingredients, a hint of smoke as well as house-blended sauces for all the flavours you need.

Carne & Caipirinha

Brazilian meats join the mix with lots of delicious flavours served up at Carne & Caipirinha. Sit at your table and let the passadors (chefs) come to your table directly to serve up meats like their Beef Rump Cap (Picanha) and Beef Hump (Cupim).

They also serve up some unique dishes of Zebu, a type of cattle only found in Brazil.

The Carvery

We are big fans of The Carvery which always seems to have a delectable selection of meats in its brunch buffets.

Delectable meats like baby back ribs and leg of lamb are cooked over fire and brined for hours to get the flavours just right.

Pool Grill

Have your meat and enjoy it poolside in the centre of town at the Marriott’s Pool Grill.

Their impressive 280g rib eye and 280g sirloin go perfectly with their signature lobster butter, red wine jus and mushroom cream sauce — all homemade with vibrant flavours.
