Absolut Art Bar 2016: “Guru Jimmy’s Absolut Ashram of Spirituality”

Updated on March 23 2016

This year’s Absolut art bar is back with UK artist James Ostrer and ‘Guru Jimmy’ (Ostrer’s spiritual alter-ego). Absolut and Ostrer will be presenting two colourful and vibrant art bar installations at Zuma and Art Central during Hong Kong Art Week. The collaboration is inspired by Ostrer’s belief that everyone deserves the right to create their own future and find their ‘happy inner selfie’.

Artist and photographer James Ostrer is known for his bright and quirky pieces of art.

To celebrate the collaboration, Art Central will be showcasing Ostrer’s latest work, Ego Systems, which explores how celebrity icons give off the facade of success, beauty and glamour through traditional and social media. Zuma will also be featuring Ostrer’s widely-acclaimed photo series, Wotsit All About, which references icons of contemporary sugar worship and the increasingly dangerous methods of food production.

Inspired by Ostrer’s own battle with junk food and sugar addiction, Guru Jimmy has collaborated with some of Hong Kong’s best mixologists from Maximal Concepts and Zuma to create seven colourful cocktails using only natural ingredients and sugars.

Meant to look like the colours of a rainbow, the art bar itself is a technicolour dreamland with comfy beanbag chairs and  ‘material wealth’ rugs so you can truly sit back and contemplate. It also pays tribute to Absolut’s newest limited edition bottle, Absolut Mix, which features six colours of pride that blend together when the bottle is moved — allowing people to connect without labels or losing their individuality.

Bright, fruity libations to keep you going during art week.

The Absolut art bar at Art Central will serve a selection of blue, violet and yellow-hued cocktails including the citrusy blue-coloured Absolut Clarity, made with blended orange and lime, a homemade citrus cordial and Absolut Vodka. These four cocktails will also be available throughout April at Limewood so you can still get your fix even after Art Central.

Zuma’s nigiri set is inspired by seasonal ingredients, full of vivid colours.

At Zuma, there will be a total of four cocktails including the Happy Inner Selfie infused with pomegranate, cinnamon and yuzu and an exciting food-pairing menu of maki, sushi and interpretative fruit platters — a perfect way to carry on your night after an evening of perusing the art at Art Central.

The Absolut art bar will be open throughout Art Central from 21 to 26 March and at Zuma from 12pm daily from 21 to 28 March, with a special live DJ from 7pm throughout the week.
