During an interview with British Vogue, Phoebe Philo, creative director of Céline since 2008, described her design aesthetic as “clothes that are beautiful, strong and have ideas, but with real life driving them.” Her creative approach combines beauty and confidence so well, it carries through beyond the clothes and into every aspect of Céline’s design.
That effortless-meets-minimalist look is clearly expressed in her Pre-Fall collection. The silhouettes are long and streamlined; tunics narrow and elongated and trousers straight and loose. But what’s really interesting is how the “Philo aesthetic” translates into the accessories. While still minimalist, they were ingeniously infused with a subtle yet evident bohemian vibe. That meant lots of seventies inspired jewellery — metals, chunky cuffs and precious gems — coupled with knee-high boots, hobo bags with an external pouch and purses with fine chain detailing in a palette of vermillion, dark moss and white.
The beauty of all this is that they clearly go well together. To showcase that, we’ve put together five different looks for five different types of women, with the collection’s accessories.
