5 decadent buffet brunches in Singapore and what to wear to them

Updated on September 1 2016

Singaporeans have elevated brunch to an art form, making it the best way to spend a leisurely weekend afternoon. If you’re going to be modest and go for a nice, à la carte brunch, kudos to you, but nothing really beats a good, decadent buffet where you can sample everything from Western to Asian fare (not to mention some much needed bubbles).

But what we often find perplexing is the abundant bodycon dresses and sky-high heels we see at many brunches. After all, if the focus is on the food (fresh seafood, fresh pasta and that dessert spread await) you don’t want to be fighting your own clothing for space to eat and breathe.

To give you a little brunch and beauty inspiration, we’ve put together five brunch-ready, super-stylish outfits to wear to your next weekend meal (we’ve also got a few suggestions for those here too). From a quirky ruffled tops to a roomy baby doll frock and comfy sneakers, these outfits will let you enjoy your meal while still standing out in the crowd — for all the right reasons.

The Knolls

Unwind and recharge over Sunday brunch at Capella Singapore’s The Knolls restaurant, a stylish space dressed in wood and overlooking verdant greenery. The brunch features scrumptious Mediterranean food, tapas, seafood and special highlights such as seafood bouillabaisse and truffle risotto. There is also a wide range of desserts including green tea chocolate cake and lime and coconut crème brûlée.

If you’re in the mood for a drink or two, opt for the restaurant’s Vintage option, which comes with a free flow of Vintage Taittinger Champagne, French boutique wines, beers and cocktails.

Glam girl

If you’re planning to hit the champagne at brunch (as you should), turn up in a dramatic floor-length dress, with a fancy purse and some statement heels so that everyone remembers your outfit instead of your antics. Remember to top off the look with some reflective sunglasses so that you’re not easily recognised.

Get the look: Elie Saab embroidered cotton tulle gown ($6,073), Linda Farrow gold toned mirror aviators ($1,084), Dolce & Gabbana crystal embellished printed patent leather clutch ($5,025), Gucci embellished metallic leather sandals ($1,579)

Lime

Feast like a king (or queen) at Lime restaurant’s Super Lunch Sunday, which offers a mouthwatering spread of local and international delights spanning seafood, sushi, laksa and Indian food. Meat lovers are also in for a treat, with protein-packed dishes such as roasted wagyu topside and leg of lamb from the Grand Carvery station.

For some added indulgence, complete your meal with unlimited servings of house pour wines, beer or a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck champagne — all available with a top up fee. The restaurant also sends out a Sangria trolley at 1pm, so you can pamper yourself silly with tipple.

Babe at the buffet

Brunch station queues got you down? Slick your hair back in a ponytail and race tot he front of the line in a roomy-yet-stylish baby doll dress (the high waistline also hides the overeating so feel free to indulge) and comfortable sneakers. Go for a cross body bag and sling it across for easier movement when you’re on the go.

Get the look: Caroline Constas off-shoulder gingham baby doll dress ($509), Jennifer Behr gold bee hair tie ($130) and Medusa gold hair tie ($217), Givenchy mini Pandora in bright pink ($1,439), Valentino embroidered butterfly sneakers ($965)

Camouflage queen

Hide the fact that you’re planning to indulge for the afternoon with a huge statement bag that not only distracts from your main aim, but also hides any bulge you might pick up along the way. Match it with a backless jumpsuit and bright coloured earrings to grab attention for your fashion (and not any flab).

Get the look: Zimmermann sakura embroidered cotton and linen jumpsuit ($587), Oscar de la Renta floral motif resin earrings ($477), Anya Hindmarch assorted stickers leather tote ($2,817), Miu Miu suede and satin platform sandals ($840)

Sixties chick

If you’re worried about being overexposed while you’re enjoying the buffet, opt for an extremely flamboyant, ruffled top that draws the attention away from your abdomen area. Also, have a little fun with your outfit by giving it a sixties/seventies vibe, pairing that ruffled top with high-waisted flare jeans, velvet platforms, a (fashionable) fanny pack and some dainty necklaces.
