5 new Bao Bao Issey Miyake bags you must have

Issey Miyake is notorious for his “anti-fashion” designs. Known for his eccentric technological-driven design pieces that heavily involve pleating techniques, he creates different textures and unique cocoon shapes in his clothing that coalesces influences from both east and the west.

First launched in September 2010, the maison’s Bao Bao line consists of tote bags burgeoning from the idea of “shapes made by chance”. The ability to shape shift into different geometrical shapes — depending on how the user carries it — is one of the reason why many are spotted hoisting this bag.

This year, while retaining their iconic geometrical shapes and structure adaptability, they’ve released new and different designs that leave us in awe. We’ve picked 5 of our favourite new bags from Bao Bao Issey Miyake’s new collection you need to start toting around.

Platinum Dew Drop chain bag in blue

With the ability to utilise this bag in 3 different ways – cross body, shoulder or clutch; this bag is not only elegant but at the same time unique, as the texture is inspired from morning dew drops.

Wood textured tote bag in gray

Using a 3-dimensional print to channel a realistic texture of wood, this bag adds quirky touch to the house’s classic Bao Bao bag. They’ve topped it with a little insect (you’ll need to take a closer look to spot the vivid bug) to further add authenticity to the woody theme.

Diamond Gloss triangular purse in red

Unique, eclectic and handy in its design, this bag is perfect for a lunch date, or simply for an amplification for your casual shirt and denim jeans outfit.

Chord pouch in multi white

Instead of using Bao Bao’s classic triangular pieces, this bag consists of different shapes (we spy circles, rectangles and even a lightning bolt) pieced together to form a bag that has a unique, never seen before design.

Platinum bag pack in bordeaux

This metallic-sheen bag pack reminds us of the sixties where sci-fi fashion was omnipresent because of man’s first visit into space. Ditch the classic gold and silver, go for a bordeaux coloured bag pack to stay au courant whilst reliving nostalgia.
