Malaysian jewellery brands are on the rise. Here’s 5 to covet

Jewellery is designed as a form of self-expression. You see it in various forms and shapes, on people of different looks and styles. The assumption? That they are made and designed abroad. While that could very well be the case, Malaysian jewellery brands have been on the rise of late so that bit of sparkle you spy hanging off someone’s neck might just be made in Malaysia.

Indeed, thanks to fashionistas local and international as well as jewellery designers on Instagram, the demand for luxurious necklaces, bracelets and earrings has never been greater. Where there’s demand, there will be supply and with it comes a growing pool of designers who are creatively and successfully paving Malaysia’s name in the fashion and jewellery industry.

These designers are stepping up their game by releasing exclusively designed rings, necklaces and bracelets made with various materials from their headquarters. Many of them sport distinct aesthetics, from the thin, clean lines for The Straits Finery to the ones that sport generously sized gem stones. Could any of these designers one day have a store right on Fifth Avenue, standing shoulder to shoulder with global brands like Cartier and Tiffany & Co? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, here are five Malaysian jewellery brands to keep an eye out for now.

The Straits Finery

Founders and best friends Amira and Chern who met on a small island along the Straits of Malacca started this brand with the aim of creating delicate fine jewellery. They’ve always watched their mothers style themselves with pieces passed down from generation to generation; hence becoming the main inspiration for the brand. The Straits Finery uses precious metals meant to last for generations — chief among them being 14-karat gold.
