Returning for its fourth edition, Art Central is the harbinger of Hong Kong art week, kicking off a whole host of exciting events — from art fairs to exhibition openings, and of course, plenty of parties this month from 26 March onwards.
What better way to toast to the festivities than with free-flow champagne? For the third year, Mumm Champagne has partnered with Art Central to transform the big tent into a bubbly affair, where Mumm will be sold by the bottle and by flute on roving champagne trolleys throughout the fair. This year, they’re adding to the effervescent atmosphere by bringing us the MEDIA X MUMM Beach Club: an oasis for art lovers to relax and mingle while sipping the newly launched Mumm Grand Cordon Rosé, which is unveiling its edgy new transparent bottle design during art week. Those who purchase a bottle will also get to learn about the art of sabrage — and perhaps even dare to try their hand at sword-slicing their own bottle too.
Visitors to the tropical getaway-inspired Beach Club will also get to sip on the truly Instagram-worthy Mumm Poptail — a glass of the rosé served with a fruity ice pop, a perfect match for cooling down in Hong Kong’s fast-approaching warm weather. The Beach Club is set to be unveiled during the fair’s First Night kick-off event, and will remain open during fair hours.
As long as Mumm has been the champagne sponsor of Art Central, its MEDIA X MUMM initiative has supported cutting edge art. This edition, they’re bringing forth graffiti artist Bisco Smith, who’s known for his deconstructed graffiti, ‘visual freestyle’ abstraction and song-inspired calligraphy. Visitors on the First Night will be able to see the man in action during a live painting performance, where the piece will be finished and displayed at the MEDIA X MUMM Beach Club throughout the fair.
However, what truly sets the art week spirit in motion will be the iconic MEDIA X MUMM Harbour Party, one of the most anticipated, invitation-only parties this side of the harbour for art week, and this year held on 27 March. Last year the champagne-soaked event sparked off Art Central’s official launch and played host to over 700 VIP partygoers enjoying free-flowing food and drink, as well as a range of boundary-pushing art and live DJ performances. This year, the celebration will coincide with the launch of the new Mumm Grand Cordon Rosé — so expect glasses to be full of the sunset-pink hue.
