Following its most extensive renovation in over 115 years, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London finally announces the completion of the multi-million-pound restoration. The building retains its original iconic facade, while its interior is given a new lease of life and look. This revamp stands to cement the historic hotel’s position
as one of the best in the world.
For the restoration, Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park engaged the expertise of internationally-acclaimed designer Joyce Wang to work on the rooms and public areas, while New York designer Adam D. Tihany redesigned the Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Bar Boulud, London and Mandarin Bar. The hotel also commissioned Visto Images to curate a formidable art portfolio throughout the hotel. Hence, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park now boasts a striking photograph by Mary McCartney as well as pieces inspired by Hyde Park and English technological inventions.
As you step into the new lobby, you will notice that it has been transformed to maximise natural daylight and blend seamlessly with The Rosebery Lounge’s nature-inspired décor. Look upwards and admire the glass chandelier in the shape of a closed flower bud, and later look out for the open flower blossom chandelier suspended over the lounge area.
Over to the guest rooms, Wang’s design took inspiration from the hotel’s royal heritage and parkside location, as well as the glamour of the early 20th century’s Golden Age of travel. The art deco features include carefully curated artworks and custom-designed furniture, while all the suites feature a reading library curated by known London bookseller, Heywood Hill, record players with vintage vinyl collections, and yoga mats for private practice.
The largest suite measures at 397 square metres: the Mandarin Oriental Penthouse with three bedrooms and its own private terrace. Sitting on the topmost floor, the penthouse offers sweeping views of Hyde Park and the London skyline. The penthouse will only be open to the public in July 2018. However, a small fire incident at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park on the 6th of June meant that the hotel is currently closed until further notice.
That aside, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is a beautiful property following its refurbishment. View the gallery and be sure to click the (+) button for captions.
