A promising young artist from Silpakorn University, Amarin Buppasiri, will be featured at the DOB Hualamphong Gallery from June 15 - July 26, 2009. Buppasiri's first solo exhibition is a series of painted images exaggerating the imitating behavior of Thai teenage girls.
The statement, bearing a strike at unregulated advertisements and bombarding 'outer influences' is not too difficult to derive, but the value of this collection is in the awkward composition and obvious hints of mimicry as a blatant form of hiding insecurity. Coyly innocent, the eyes of each subject coated in tones of pastel, speak volumes.
The gallery opens during 10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday (closed on Mondays).
