In our previous visit of Serenity Spanish Restaurant, we were thoroughly impressed with the good authentic Spanish fare. Their Spanish Paella and decent range of Tapas really hit the spot. This time we head down to sample some of their liquor offerings. Apparently they have more than a 100 different premium liqueurs and cocktails on their menu and that comes as a surprise because Vivocity is one of the last places you expect a restaurant to have such a well stocked bar.
Naturally they have your usual pub fare like your vodkas, tequilas, whiskeys but it is their Especialidades (Spanish specialities) that you should gun for. For a true blue Spanish favourite, try their Sangria (SG$15 per glass) which a refreshing blend of gin, brandy, triple sec, wine and fresh fruits. The cool thing is that if you start your night with a glass of Sangria, you get one free Tapas (limited time promotion).
The Spanish Bullfrog (SG$15 per glass) is another wicked cocktail that is just as refreshing. This ingenious mix of 5 liquors and red bull is much more pleasant than its name suggests.
Serenity's Signature Spanish Coffee (SG$15 per glass) is a must try. Prepared with sambucca, kahlua, cointreau and finished off with cinnamon, nutmeg and a crusty sugar rim, this drink gives its Irish counterpart a run for its money. Its preparation process is a glorious process with flames and sparks flying in all directions. Just check out the video below and you will get what I am saying. Another fiery concoction available is Spanish Absinthe (SGS18 per glass). This 85% alcohol concoction is bound to put hair on your chest and is set ablaze in a wine glass before consumption.
Another uniquely Spanish drink available is Patcharan (SG$10 per glass). The liqueur is traditionally made in Spain by soaking sloe berries, collected from the blackthorn, in an anise-flavoured spirit. A few coffee beans and vanilla pods are also thrown in for good measure. It results in a light reddish-brown sweet liquid that is fragrant without being overly sweet and is taken as an after dinner digestive.
Brandy Casajuana (SG$32 per glass) remains the grande dame at Serenity. This 100 year old Spanish brandy is smooth with a nice warm woody finish.
So the next time you are at Vivocity head down to Serenity for a taste of Spain, we trust you will find it an exciting and fiery affair.
