Monkey Bar, the new Tapas | I am a huge fan of Tapas Silom Soi 4, I actually think that it's one of the best clubs to go to! Definitely remind me of Drop in Hong Kong but of course it's a Bangkok version of Drop. Monkey Bar boasts on Facebook to have a DJ coming down from Studio 54 and guarantees the fun. We decided, why not try a new place for a change, after all, who doesn't love a remix of 80's music. By 11pm the place was actually packed full with people and more coming even before midnight. Dance floor is a dance floor not a place to mingle and chit chat at MB. What reminds us of Tapas when we are at MB is probably the drummer and the fact that they played .... la de da say do you remember la de da dancing in September la de da never was a cloudy day ... Even thought it was a cloudy night, Monkey Bar sure lights up our night! ________________________________________________________________ Saturdays at Monkey Bar is Ladies Night. Free entry all night! Rainy Weekend with Mauro Picotto | This weekend at 808 we have Mauro Picotto spinning pure electronic music from midnight till dawn. The Italian trance musician recently launched the album 'Meganite Ibiza,' and for a DJ, he is not only a spinner but a looker. 808 seems to be the spot that I hang out at these days, not only do they bring the blast from the past music icons but the up and coming one as well. Soon enough we'll get to see Mr. Steve Aoki, I met him at Chloe Fashion Show last year and I can't wait to see him again, hopefully he can still remember me! If you haven't been to 808 yet then now is the time. ________________________________________________________________ Lexie Lee on May 22nd, 2009 Steve Aoki on May 28th, 2009 ________________________________________________________________ | | Tags: 808, Mauro Picotto, Nightlife, AMFAB, Nest | | Published on Monday, 18th of May at 12:05 pm | Category: Entertainment | | Comment this post

Thursdays, the new Fridays | It's officially official that Thursday nights are the new Fridays. Not that I remember since when people started going out on Thursdays but as long as the spot is happening I am down for it. After visiting the Tetto Lounge at Anantara Baan Rajprasong I decided to stop by at 808 to see the Andy C scene. Considering the fact that I am not a big Drum & Bass fan I must admit, Andy C do have quite a bit of the followers and he is actually pretty good! Maybe he was playing commercial D&B or maybe I just had too many procesco but either way, by midnight 808 was full with D&B fans doing their thing on the dance floor. It's kind of nice to see that people are still with a party spirit even when it is raining down in Bangkok on a Thursday night. | | Tags: 808, Andy C, Nightlife | | Published on Friday, 15th of May at 11:46 am | Category: Entertainment | | Read comments (2) | Comment this post

More Friends, More Money Theory | Facebook, Hi5, Twitter, to MySpace has become a part of our lives one way or another, it's a way for you to keep in touch with your friends and family. Meghan Daum recently wrote an article in LA Times about a friendaholism, "I'm wondering if the joke is on me. Is her salary 2% higher for every extra friend she has on Facebook?" If the theory is actually true, every random person you add actually has value to your salary then I guess some Facebook addicts can rest at peace in front of their screen adding more 'friends' when they are not even friends. Social networking sites is no doubt a great tool for marketing but how personal can you get with people online when you can actually take time and get to know them in person and build a '3D-face-to-face' relationship just incase Twitter server goes down one day. "As depressing as that is, it's hardly surprising. In the mind of the friendaholic, having one friend you can count on apparently just isn't as fun as having thousands of friends to count up," said Maghan. Facebook is definitely fun especially when I am bored at 1 a.m. in the morning but to actually have a sole purpose of having-the-most-friends-on-Facebook, is still a very far to be formed concept for me. Maybe we might make more sales through being more active online but as for me, nothing beats personal relationship and by that I mean a person I can actually walk with on the street of Bangkok rather than on Second Life. | | Tags: facebook, friends, network, money | | Published on Wednesday, 11th of March at 12:09 pm | Category: Culture | | Read comment (1) | Comment this post

Hanging Out with Life | You know how sometimes you have that mini-intuition that you just shrug it off, I did that today. My brother turned 9 today, first thing I did in the morning was asked him what he wants for his birthday. “A box of chocolate is enough … you can’t buy me what I want anyway,” he said smiling sarcastically and I just smile a little smile. Being a gym freak that I am my must do activity was to gym and finish my work so I can spend time with my little brother. After that many hours of planning what to do for next week’s calendar, photographer schedule, I came up for a power nap. Few calls that I could have answered but decided to just stay in my deep sleep mode, woke up late, missed the class. And there I was just deciding, okay to go or to stay, I went ahead anyway. I need that box of chocolate and I could do some running. I called my mom while walking into the car just like every other day, we plan the whole evening, my dad was taking his nap. It’s amazing how five minutes from that phone call, life can actually be full of the unexpected. The Single Attack Part II | It's a Tuesday morning, you and the hot out of the store, baggett, take a stroll around this dynamic city of Bangkok with your iPod shuffling to the tune that you can't get enough of. For a moment you actually feels like the pollution smells like fresh air. Of course that only last for a second and I lied, you'd still feel the pollution. Point is, besides the fact that we have to breathe in all this pollution, drinks alcohol to socialize (and actually enjoys it). We wake up in the morning, hit the gym to sweat that toxic out physically yet at the end of some day, we still have to deal with the s(he)-who-shall-not-be-named. We all have that once in a while, you know, the person, the one person that manage to just say something so directly yet indirectly attacking your pride of being single. True that it's not an easy task being fabulously single in this so-called liberated city. If you ever get negative and start to wonder what's wrong with them or with you, just look at your fabulous shoes, bags, and most important of all, everything and everyone around you. They-who-shall-not-named, shall not matter. I recalled a blog I finger snapped with my attitude about the big tank with many fish inside. The fish still exists and if it makes you feel better then think of the fish as for me, I prefer to be on land where I belong. Few minutes after I encounter the only she-sometimes-is-devil, I shrug it off with the thought that I am living the life of the life and so are you. | | Tags: life, men, women, friends, relationship | | Published on Thursday, 26th of February at 9:58 am | Category: Culture | | Comment this post

Soul Kandi | You love house music and you're running out of tracks to listen to at work (just like I was), uplifting house music might be your next best friend it certainly is mine now. As a googler and a podcast-holic, I discovered DJ Nick Power who hosts Soul Kandi every Saturday. The best mix that has officially become the earworm for me is the Valentine's Day remix. Hey, I might not have another half but this remix makes me feel like I do have one! I love the track called, 'Butterflies.' I am patiently awaiting for the next Soul Kandi by Mr. Power himself. www.djnickpower.dj | | Tags: music, house, nick power, hed kandi | | Published on Thursday, 26th of February at 9:56 am | Category: Entertainment | | Read comment (1) | Comment this post

Ekamai on Fire Again | Yes, I don't know if it's the road or it's the maintenance of the place but it's been almost three months since the Santika incident and a spot in Ekamai is on fire again. As we were deciding between Tuba or Sode Samo, we ended up in Shades of Retro. Parked our car and walked in to the bar and just like the movie scene, lights in the whole street went off. Definitely not good, not that I'm scared of the dark or anything but five minutes later, fifteen minutes later, and twenty minutes later, the lights are still out is kind of freaky. Luckily the table right next to mine was full with information so I found out that Nami restaurant or so they say, is on fire. If you feel like Nami is still far away from us, let me spot it for you, next to groove across the famed bar Tuba (which was one of the places we had in mind!). I didn't exactly see the fire but as I was driving home I notice that the whole road on the other side was blocked. I really hope that everyone is fine and no one is hurt. I guess soon enough all of us would hear something. Anxiously waiting. | | Tags: ekamai | | Published on Sunday, 22nd of February at 2:59 am | Category: Culture | | Read comments (2) | Comment this post

When Nothing Turns into Something | Sabina, Lan Kwai Fong, after hours, one bottle of white wine, bath tub, was just a part of the plan that I followed on Sunday night in Hong Kong. My intention was to explore more of the city, while I was all hyped up by that cheap mini-bottle of wine from 7-11, one of my friends literally dropped dead on the bed while the other was in her glasses looking around, lying around, and eventually, spying around town with me. The thing is, me and Nimmy, we've been together for way too long, so many memories, old days and when we listen to music together we would start our sentence with "Do you remember when ..." There she waas, sitting by the window across me holding a remote, trying to change the song while her hand is shaking, I wonder if it was from the cold or from the fact that we felt like we're cheating on our dead in bed friend! Many never-going-to-post-on-my-blog events later, we winded up in a club called Traffic or Traffik (just incase that's the hip-hop way of saying it). "Okay, drinks on me, what do you want?" I asked. Nimmy, flip, flip, menu, oh wait I don't remember if there was a menu ... Was there? "I want Nothing please," she said to the bartender. I just stared at her like either she was tipsy or I was, I know I was! "Nothing?!" A couple of glasses of this so called "Nothing," cocktail later, we found ourselves singing to "I've got no daddy when I was growing up..." "Wait," I said with a little almost out-of-the-hood snapping fingers "I have a daddy when I was growing up," "So did I!" So we don't really know why one of us said that and we are still wondering why I went back to the hotel rolling on the bed laughing non-stop. Trust me, our other friend totally partied with us after that long laugh of mine, I mean, it's a skill! Rolling, laughing, together, get it? Talk about NOTHING! | | Tags: hong kong, lan kwai fong, Nightlife, sabina | | Published on Tuesday, 17th of February at 7:26 pm | Category: Travel | | Read comment (1) | Comment this post

Chic and the City (HK Version) | If you know me really well then you would know that every year I always throw a big birthday party and I plan ahead of time. This year, HK was the plan, and we made it, through the immigration, the MTR station, slopes, and stairs, into LKF (Lan Kwai Fong). As much as I want to tell you every single details about my trip, where, when, who, and so on, somethings are meant to kept a secret. Ok, so on my first day of being 24 as I was hanging out with my friends on the way to Hong Kong, I realized how much I enjoy the pleasure of living the high life. While the mapper and banker turned into a map-lover, are directing the way, I was chillin' with my iPod looking around. Now that whole iPod and ear plug, getting lost and found thing, happened throughout the trip! I enjoyed the whole shot after shot after shot from a shishah spot in LKF, making my friends suffer from sun burn while I was waiting in line for a silly picture with the Snow White, or one of our friend keeping us waiting while she is going coo in Esprit, the beautiful rooftop bar that plays super old hip hop utunes like hmm I kinda forgot. What can I say? Before I fall asleep at night and wake up in the morning, I sit on the totally Chinese looking cushion, embracing the panorama of HK. It's almost like the window wasn't even there and we are just one arm length away from the sky. You know what they say, it's not the destination that matters but the journey and honestly this journey is one hell of a memory not because of Drop Club or Dragon-i, or even the Peak. I fabulously turned fabulous twenty-four in the city of colors because of my girls. Note to the Mapper and Banker: I know I am quite annoying a.k.a Miss Preset Mode, Miss Sleep and Moan, and Miss I-can't-go-anymore-I-am-so-sick but the sweetest thing we so love each other. Let's laugh and roll (on the bed or not). | | Tags: trip to hong kong | | Published on Thursday, 12th of February at 1:09 am | Category: Travel | | Comment this post

Let Go | One of my goals in life is to let go. Let go of things that I don't need, clear up that mess on my desk, let go of the fact that sometimes I don't have to be perfect, and neither are some of the relationships. I believe that letting go does not only includes the act of doing nothing but the act of forgiveness and forgetting about it. Trust me, it is much easier when you are loosing something you don't really care about, but when it is something that you care about, it tends to get complicated. Once you are at that point where you wake up and you say to yourself, "OK, that's it." Stick to it. Often times, I always feel like forgive and forget is when we have to go back and put ourselves back in some sort of relationship in order to express the 'I'm cool with you.' And maybe I don't want to do that, maybe I just want to let it all go and do nothing. Actually, the past week, that's what I have been doing, freeing myself. Sometimes somethings are just meant to be the way they are, not to fix, not be change, not to be with you or vice versa. The most important thing is to realize that even if you let go of that favorite shirt you bought yet you never wear them but you enjoy looking at them ... is that you have a closet full of other stuff that is useful.
