Alex Monroe Jewelry

During my bi-weekly browsing on NAP, I noticed NAP’s Alex Monroe jewelry. I quickly googled it up and found lots of goodies!

This reminds me of Dior’s ‘oui’ ring, except this one is way more affordable and is equally chic!

I’ve always had a thing for feather-shaped jewelry. However, not every designer designs them well. These are really nice and can go from day to night!

I like these simpler feather earrings for everyday wear. The clover leaf design is really cute too!

Hoop earrings are always a classic. These hoop earrings come with little girly details –they’re so lovely right?

Sometimes pure gold or silver jewelry just gets boring. That’s why I like the little sparks of colour that this pair has. For those who don’t want something too flashy, the crystals are small enough to not be too much.

This is my favourite ring in his collections. I imagine wearing it will give you special powers, (-this is what happens when you’ve watched too many episodes of Charmed.)

Thin-chained necklaces are classic, as is the bird pendant. This necklace will go with almost any casual outfit –from bohemian dresses to put-together, work attire.

Now if only I can figure out an offline boutique where they well Alex Monroe!

Stella McCartney FW09 Ad Campaign

New FW09 ads are coming out one by one. I haven’t seen many of the FW09 ads yet but I saw this one and thought it was pretty cute. Check out the new Stella McCartney ad campaign:

Model, Sigrid Agren is sitting in the forest with cute little animals, both real and cartoon all around her. Adorable right? The idea is that the clothes are fierce and Bambi is innocent so they’re supposed to contrast each other. I like the idea but I also feel like the image is too crowded. What do you think?

Nails Go Bright Pink This Summer

Bright pink is THE nail colour this summer. And if you haven’t tried it out yet, you better try it soon. I have spotted bright pink nails this summer from Korean students in Beijing, to shoppers in Hong Kong, to old ladies in New York City. The latter convinced me that this trend will be over soon and we should start using up our crazy pink nail polishes.

There are definitely way too many shades of pink out there so I’ve ‘investigated’ three of them for you guys:

An online beauty store went on sale a few months back and I got a bottle of Bachelorette Bash, which is described as ‘juicy raspberry’. It turned out to be exactly like the description. I love it because I’m usually a red-polish sort of girl and this reddish pink is the perfect medium for me to try out this bright pink trend.

Barneys Girl, who I had just spent the weekend with in NYC, bought Mod Squad instead. Mod Squad also turned out to be almost exactly like its description: ‘high-fidelity electric pink that sizzles’. Though note that on BG’s nails, there were some blobs of electric purple mixed in with the pink.

We spotted the third shade when we were paying at Barneys. We noticed that the salesgirl had super bright pink nails and she told us her colour is Flirty Fuchsia. It’s from this year’s Neon Collection so yes, it is a neon pink.

So you see, the many shades of bright pink out there are really so different, yet so similar. Confusing, no? Have you been using bright pink this summer? (If not, try it! It’s fun!)

Emma Watson’s Promotion Tour Looks

I just saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince and I’m still imagining myself at Hogwarts at the moment. Excuse me if I sound like an over-crazed Potter fan in this post. The movie was AMAZING -the best one in the series so far, I think. The light moments were absolutely hilarious and the dark moments were thrilling. Go see it!

Anyway, so Emma Watson has been out promoting this film along with the rest of the cast. I absolutely love Emma Watson. The thing about Emma Watson’s looks is that she never turns up looking stunning in a too-perfect way, say like Hayden Panettiere (who has also been out a lot recently promoting her new film.) Emma looks pretty in a really genuine sort of way. And yes, knowing that she’s actually really smart in real life and will be enrolling in an Ivy League this fall makes her even more brilliant.

Check out some of the outfits she’s been wearing to promote the film:

Emma wore a vintage Ossie Clarke dress at the Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince World première in London. Usually I would think such gowns were more for older women, but she carries it off with a young vibe –maybe it’s because of the red headband!

Emma looked elegant and interesting (-she didn’t just stick to the safe designers!) for a David Letterman interview.

Aren’t they so adorable? Here are the Harry Potter trio at the US première. And as we can see, Emma really turned out to be the prettiest one of them all, (though to be fair, the other two are guys…)

White and nude are all the rage this season. Emma wore these two colours a lot and very prettily!

Another trendy and classic colour combo: grey and white. Seriously chic!

But she also wore colours. She looks so chic, cute and fashionable here.

Any fans of Emma Watson here? Isn’t she just so darling!

And I repeat, go watch Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince!

Bag-Shopping at Urban Outfitters

I’ll be visiting the States later this week so I’m compiling to-buy and maybe-buy lists. I’m desperate for bags, preferably affordable, non-branded ones for both casual and work use. For the casual one, I’m just looking for any that look young and cool. As for the work bag, I’m not asking for much (because finding affordable but not cheap-looking bags are so hard,) but it would at least have to fit A4 paper.

The first one I found online is the Deux Lux Front Zip Duffel. I like how you can sling it on your shoulders and complete a girly punk, rock chic or any sort of casual outfit. The zippers in front remind me a bit of Botkier’s designs.

I love this bag! It’s pretty simple and so practical and versatile. I’m favouring it in either dark brown or grey. They looks so cool and grungy (especially with the outfit)!

Or the red and bright blue ones are pretty cute too. They look younger and more cheerful. They look like they can fit A4-sized paper (though it’s hard to tell until you actually see the real thing –does anyone know?) They’re on sale for 49USD so I hope I can actually find them in store!

Here’s another trendy

casual bag. I love all the hardware. It sort of remind me of a Burberry bag. This bag looks like another really cool and practical bag. I can’t decide which colour I like more though! These three colours are my favourites. Thoughts?

This last one is the Transformer Duffel. I’m not sure I’ll like it in real life but it looks useful in the photos. It looks big enough to throw a bunch of things in, like if you’re going to the yoga studio or something like that.

As with all high street bags, I can’t say whether the bag is nice or not until I see it in real life (because high street bags’ leather can be very different from what you see in photos.) What do you think of the bags?

Christian Lacroix –The End?

The first Christian Lacroix Haute Couture collection that I looked through completely was one from a few years back when I first started blogging. That collection and the few after that left me a pretty consistent impression: lots of embellishments and lots of colours. It was not my cup of tea but it was always interesting to look at. (Though honestly, whenever I walked past the Christian Lacroix (non-Haute Couture) rack in department stores, I wondered who would buy the clothes.) I remember one collection in particular was like watching the colours of a rainbow on the models. There were fancy gowns of every colour.

The new Couture collection showed this week felt very different. It was all so black, white and dark. The crazy colours were gone. Even the designs looked less crazy than usual.

Even though Christian Lacroix said he couldn’t think of this as the end, it all just felt very sombre.

According to this Times article, Lacroix has never turned a profit. I don’t want to sound mean but frankly, I don’t understand how it has even stayed afloat up till now. I read an article on style.com which said that Lacroix, the designer thought that the Falics (the main shareholder family) didn’t understand that the couture business is a long term investment where you can’t expect profit in two seasons. Admittedly, these are tough times for any business, but to an outsider, the financial troubles and bankruptcy filing seem inevitable. As someone who’s interested in fashion, I think the more variety there is in the market, the better. Lacroix has always offered his unique point of view in fashion and the fashion house is an important part of fashion history. But as we learn in Biology: only the fittest survive. In this case, the fittest refers to generating profit. Let’s hope Lacroix finds a financial backer soon and turns itself around.

Little J Looking Pretty, Rock-Chic For Season 3

When Taylor Momson was cast as Jenny Humphrey (Little J) for Season 1, everyone’s reaction was, “But she’s too pretty (compared to the books’ descriptions)!” But Little J won everyone over with her baby-faced, angelic looks. Then in Season 2, she transformed into an angry punk. There was the short, choppy haircut and those over-the-top raccoon eyes.

Recently, paparazzi pictures of the Gossip Girl cast filming Season 3 showed Little J looking……

So pretty! The hair! The clothes! The makeup! The outfit is girly with a bit of edge (and without going over the top with the whole rebel thing.) And her makeup is really pretty, though maybe slightly too mature for her age. As for the outfit, just wow.

She’s probably got hair extensions. She looks so much better with longer hair! And her hair’s put-together messiness looks so much prettier than Serena’s messy hair, which my friends and I refer to as the bird nest (especially in Season 1.)

I don’t know if this is a Taylor outfit or a Little J outfit but whatever it is, she looks so cool. Now I’m on a lookout for things (including the striped top/dress and sunglasses) that look like what she’s got on!

Who misses Gossip Girl?

Lauren’s Book Tour

Lauren Conrad (of The Hills, just in case you’ve got better things to watch on TV,) has been on a book tour for her new book, L.A. Candy. What better opportunity than this to check out her always girly and cute outfits?

Lauren kick-started her book tour wearing a cute Phillip Lim 3.1 LBD at her book party.

She went on Conner O’Brian in another formal dress. This dress is sparkly, girly, modern, and most importantly, gives off the feeling that she has grown out of the Hills! (If that is the impression she’s trying to give out.)

So for her actual book signings, she wore much more casual, typical-LC outfits.

The pretty, black and white shirt with black shorts combo –this is probably the most popular combo that girls around the world are wearing this season! Well, at least the black shorts with any sort of top combo.

A similar look but with a lady-like black skirt instead of shorts. I usually think this sort of skirts makes girls look too mature but she looks so gorgeous in it! She looked sophisticated in the fluttery-sleeved top combo (left, with the braids!) and looks trendy in the grey shirt combo (right).

Another go-to casual outfits for girls everywhere these days: white tee, black jeans with a leather jacket, (although in many parts of the world, it’s too hot to wear leather jackets now.) I thought the outfit was pretty typical and didn’t think much of it until I saw the shirt and thought, that fit is perfect! I want one too!

The most commonly seen dress styles that Lauren usually wears: cute, above-knee length A-line dress and the maxi dress.

Lauren out shopping in between book signings -It’s so nice how shopping is part of her job!

As seen from her Top Shop bags above, she’s obviously gotten a few outfits from there and here are two of them! I adore these two dresses because they remind me of London style, and they’re really young and cute.

This was the only outfit that I really didn’t like. The whole look is just so mature, boring and proper. What is this? A meeting with the Queen?

While her style isn’t the most impressive one around, I love how she always sticks to her own style. Did you like her book tour outfits? Most importantly, are you planning to buy or read L.A. Candy? I probably will! (Yes, I know I need to get a life.)

Stylish Clocks

OK this post has got nothing to do with fashion but it’s still got pretty stuff for us to ooh and aah over! Recently, I’ve been looking around for room décor. I am a pretty pragmatic person so even when I’m looking for décor, the piece must be of some practical use. A clock is one of the few things that qualify. In one of the décor stores, I spotted this clock:

What you see in the photo is the whole clock –it only goes from 12 to 3. The rest of the clock is up to your imagination. It’s such a simple and cool design! Unfortunately, that’s also the problem with this clock –how am I supposed to tell the time beyond the 12 -3 space? There were a few more Karlsson clocks in the store so I decided to check the full collection online.

These two clocks are so cute! I LOVE the blue, yellow, red clock. There is almost nothing I love more than books so this design is absolutely perfect!

This one makes me feel like I’m at an airport or a railway station!

This is great if you’ve got loads of friends (who you actually keep in contact with) all over the world.

Though this set of four clocks would look cuter on a plain wall.

The designers manage to use different ways to show otherwise plain, numerical clocks.

I like how the designers use many other ways to express ‘1, 2, 3 etc’ apart from using actual numbers.

Even though the designs I’ve shown so far have been pretty neutral-coloured, there are plenty colourful designs.

Some with just a shot of colour. They’re both so adorable!

For those of you who like girly and simple designs, you would like these two. They remind me of clocks that boutique hotels would have.

Which one is your favourite? Oh, and if you’ve got any décor shop suggestions, let me know!

Coach Poppy Collection

I was just randomly surfing the Net when I clicked into a site showing some pictures from the Coach Poppy collection. Everything looked young and colourful so I went to the Coach website to check it out. It turns out Coach must really care about this collection because Poppy has its own little site, and this site is very well designed!

Anyway, I haven’t quite looked through the whole site yet but check out these shoes! I find these shoes (-named Skyla) totally adorable! In my mind, they’re part Ferragamo, part Miu Miu. If they were kitten-heeled, they would be so perfect for working ladies everywhere!

I am definitely making a trip to a Coach store soon for these. Anyone been checking out the Poppy collection?

Cute Swimsuits

A month ago, my friend asked me where she could find cute swimsuits for the summer. I’m not really a beach person so in general, I have no interest in swimsuits. But this season’s Marc by Marc Jacobs swimsuits really caught my attention. They’re so cute and girly.

And trendy. Check out the single strap (on the left) and the ruffles (on the right) –all major trends of this season.

If I were to buy a swimsuit this season, I would choose between one of these two. I like how the halter neck one (on the left) doesn’t look that much like a swimsuit, though I really like the pink buckles on the one on the right. Both are just so chic it would be hard to choose!
