Recently while I was surfing Youtube for pole dance videos and I came across plenty of “pole dance bloopers” videos. Some are funny, some looks painful, but I must add- ALL are dangerous. Pole dancing is a sport and like all sports, it is dangerous if done without proper supervision and care on the pole dancer. As more ladies tries pole dancing, it is also important for them to note these safety precautions at all times.

#1 Always learn under a certified and experienced instructor.

Like any other sport, the pole dance instructor is in charge of proper learning as well as your safety. With a certified instructor, it will significantly minimize the probability of falls, muscle pulls or other injuries that are involved with the sport.

#2 Note the students to instructors ratio in the class.

While there is an experienced instructor, there is limited attention that each instructor can offer. With my teaching experience, student to instructor ratio should be not more than 8 to 1. When the class gets too big, students don’t learn appropriately, and that’s when accidents happen.

#3 Practice with a proper dance pole.

If you wish to purchase your own dance pole, consult a dance instructor for information on which pole to purchase. There are many kinds of dance pole sold in the market and not all are suitable for pole dancing. If not, you can always practice at the pole dance studio!

#4 Always practice in appropriate attire.

Simple! A comfortable top and shorts is the formula.

#5 Practice in a clean and bright area.

In pole dancing, there are moves that involve spinning to the ground, so make sure that the ground around the pole is even and clean. Also make sure that the area is brightly lit, with the right amount space around the pole.

Stay tuned for more safety pointers. Meanwhile, happy pole dancing and be safe!
