Since my last article “Get rid of Butterfly arms”, I have received many queries about pole dancing. Along with the queries comes concerns, or rather myths about pole dancing.
Myth #1 I have to be fit to pole dance.
Not true. In fact, we pole dance to get fit. There is this misconception because most of the pole dance performers they see are fit and toned. Learning pole dancing is a gradual process, with increasing difficulty on each level. Pole dancing beginners’ priority is on muscle conditioning- build muscles and increasing endurance and stamina. After time, you will definitely find yourself fitter and conquering more difficult moves!
Myth #2 I am too big to pole dance.
Pole dancing is for every one of all shapes and sizes. Anyone can pole dance if you have the right mindset and practice. If you don’t try, you won’t know what you are capable of!
Myth #3 I can’t pole dance because I do not have any dancing experience.
Pole dancing does not require any dancing experience if you start from the beginner levels. In pole dancing lessons, the dance moves will be broken down by the instructor for easy leaning. If you are still worried, my advice is to go for smaller classes where the instructors can offer more time and attention on your dance moves.
Myth #4 Pole dancing is sleazy.
This is one of the biggest misunderstandings of pole dancing as it used to be portrayed as sleazy with its past association to strip clubs. However, pole dancing is now widely accepted as a healthy sport, a form of gymnastics involving high muscle endurance and body coordination. Pole dancing is even proposed to become a segment in Olympic Games!
As long as it is learnt under a certified and experienced instructor, pole dancing is definitely a beneficial sport for everyone!
