Today’s urban women desires stylish and comfortable fashion that accentuates their confidence and femininity, but sadly many don’t understand their own body types or they can’t find suitable clothes and ended up wearing clothes that do not flatter their body shapes.
I hope that through this 4 part series on fashion and styling tips for different body types, I can help more women identify and have a better understanding of their body type and the fashion tips can help them change the way they think about their flaws and enjoy dressing up more, so they can feel beautiful inside-out. My philosophy is not to hide our ‘so-called flaws’ with the garments, but to play up our nice features instead.
Let’s start with the first body shape I am going to introduce to you:
Curvy Queen.
If you have hourglass figure and are a little extra curvy on the hips, you are a Curvy Queen.
We’re trying not to be jealous of your curves. You may be shocked with this statement as you probably wish that you did not inherit your granny’s childbearing hips whenever you looked in the mirror or when you have problems getting the right pair of jeans/ bottoms because you have a waist of a UK 8 or UK10 but you have a hips of UK 12 or UK 14.
I know you still need a little bit more convincing to feel more confident about your shape, so here is a major tip you have to keep in mind: The key to your figure is your waist, defining your middle will show off the stunning hourglass silhouette you're known for and stop worrying about the size of your hips, you will grow to love them with the right clothes.
Here are some styling tips for your body shape:
1) Try tops with detailing like ruching, bows or bold prints to draw the attention upwards. V necks will break up your chest area, try this 3 way V neck blouse and pair it with black straight-legged trousers.

2) Keep your bottoms half darker than your top half to slim your lower body. Trousers can be tricky, so straight and wide legged styles are your best answers. Try this pair of duotone palazzo pants, the black upper portion is intended to make your hips smaller and the flare immediately elongates your legs, pair it with a cape to balance the look. Pencil or tulip shaped skirts that skims over your thighs will make you look incredible and pair it with puff sleeve top to broaden your shoulders. This high-waist with petal pocket details will really show off your best assets, which is your slim waist.
3) Any kind of dresses that nips in the waist and flares over your hips and thighs will work for you, so belted or tulip skirt dresses are ideal for you. Want a dress that goes the extra mile? Try my little red dress than can be worn multiple ways (up to 10 ways or more). Shown here are 4 out of 10 looks.
4) Use statement necklaces and earrings to draw attention upwards. High heels in nude colours are ideal as they elongate your lower half, making your legs twice as long.
