Airport hotels have never been go-to destinations, but the opening of SkyCity Marriott Hotel at the Hong Kong International Airport, is to change that.
Aesthetically, it is drastically different from their Pacific Place branch. With warm wood overtones and amber lighting, it is a much more modern affair. Frequent business flyers will love the convenience of its location for one-night stays. Each of their 658 rooms, presidential suite, 32 suites and 119 executive rooms also feature unique views of the ocean or golf course.
Those heading out of Hong Kong and tired of airport cuisine – how many times can you eat at Burger King or Grappa's? – will inevitably find themselves at one of the Marriott's six restaurants.
The Sky City Bistro is an all dining venue serving continental buffet-friendly foods, Java+ a gourmet retail and coffee house for caffeine addicts, The Lounge serves light snacks until midnight, Red Zen a stylish Asian restaurant with live cooking, and Velocity Bar and Grill, a modern sports bar. Of course, the Marriott wouldn't be complete without Man Ho, their modern Cantonese restaurant.
If that isn't enough, there is a nine-hole golf course to idle your time away at when waiting for flights. Spa-goers will be happy to learn that Hong Kong's first Quan Spa, unique to Marriott Hotels, has also opened up giving travellers the perfect excuse to check in early. The only question is, with the economy in dire straits, will you even make it that far?
