A hairy jungle themed affair

Just when we thought we saw the last of jungle themed restaurants with the closure of the Rainforest Cafe a few years back, a new one has jumped into the scene. The new 3 Monkeys Restaurants at Holland Village carries a tropical jungle theme and has a huge feature wall with hand-painted murals of lush jungle greenery. The three resident monkeys can be seen in their familiar see-no-evil, hear-no-evil-and-speak-no-evil poses.

In place of animatronic lions and elephants, the cosy restaurant has some rather adorable larger than life stuffed chimpanzees. The staff at 3 Monkeys are also dressed up in cute jungle themed outfits. The guys in green safari suits are absolutely priceless even though we were a tad disappointed that they did not have African safari helmets to match.

Food here is a good international mix. American, Mexican, Italian and Asian dishes are all present. Local favourites like Nasi Goreng Udang (SG$10.90++) are popular here and is really spicy.

Seafood buffs can try out the Garlic Prawn Sizzler ($SG33++) which should not disappoint. The prawns are large and fresh and are excellent with a beer or two.

Our favorite for the night however, was the Beef Stroganoff Pasta (SG$16.90++). This meaty number is just excellent, enough said. If you like beef and you enjoy pasta you must give this a try. Portions are generous at 3 Monkeys and are great for sharing among groups of friends.

If you are you are game for a laugh, we dare you to order the Congo Fajitas (SG$33++). There is nothing wrong with the taste, in fact they are actually quite good. The problem is that an order of Congo Fajitas comes complete with a guy with the large Sombrero and a huge Mexican flag.

End the meal with a Jumpin Banana (SG$10.50++). It's a banana split with a twist. Instead of just a banana split in the middle, a scoop of vanilla ice cream is nestled cozily between 2 fried cinnamon flavoured fried bananas. In all, this is a fun light hearted restaurant that is big on fun and portions.
