Tell any of your colleagues that you will be heading down to Joo Chiat after work and you would normally get cheeky grins and who could blame them with all the dodgy ktvs in the area. Fortunately restaurants like Private Affairs hope to change that. Located right at the heart of Joo Chiat, the new private dining concept restaurant boasts fine dining food in an intimate dining environment.
The 40-seater restaurant serves up Modern European cuisine with a touch of Asian flavours and is headed by Chef Paul Ng. The talented 32-year old has 15 years of experience in the kitchen and recently returned from his stint with Chef William Girard and Chef Warrant Brown at the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai.
Like other small niche fine dining restaurants, reservations are highly recommended, not only because there is limited seating but also because of the fact that much of the produce is bought fresh everyday and the Chef needs to ensure that there is enough to go around.
Guests have a choice of 2 menues, a “The Private Affair” five-course menu at $138++ and “A Luscious Affair” is a seven-course menu at $168++. The menus are recreated every fortnight and if guests have a specific request like to have foe gras or lobster, specialised menus can also be created for them as long as the Chef has enough time to prepare.
Just to give you a taste of things to come, here are a few lovely items on november's menu.
Vine Ripen Tomatoes with Horseradish Meringue and Ginger Flower Vinaigrette.
Duck Carpaccio with Granny Smith and Scallion Gel.
