30th of June marks the arrival of Hong Kong's smoking ban. No more extended licenses or loopholes. To combat your tabacco cravings, Mandarin Oriental's Executive Chef Uwe Opoensky and M bar manager Andy Wong have created three new canape/cocktail selections, as an edible take on those items that smokers crave the most.
We are loving the look of the 'Smoky Martini' (pictured above header) as a twist on the classic gentleman's drink. The stem-less martini glass is delicately balanced inside another glass filled with dry ice 'smoke'.
For another innovative twist, the 'Cigar and Cigarette' set are two different cocktails served together in tubes. Cigar is composed of chilled chocolate liquer and cream whilst Cigarette is a tropical blend of rum, mango, coconut liquer and coconut cream.
Don't forget to order some canapes. Go for Patch, inspired by a nicotine patch, it's a clear film served in a plastic dispenser that disolves in the mouth releasing flavours of smoked bacon.
These unique offerings will be available at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong's Captain Bar and M Bar starting from 1st of July, 2009. But, if you want to give them a go ahead of time, both bars will be offering complimentary cocktail and canape samples on the 30th of June from 6pm - 7pm.
