“Yanjirlpirri Mungangka - Under the Night Sky”

In 2008 and 2009 Alma Nungarrayi Granites’s work featured in two exhibitions at the ReDot Fine Art Gallery in Singapore to much critical and commercial acclaim, which kicked off the career of a new generation of Aboriginal painter. 

 

In September she will have her 1st solo exhibition ever, hot on the heels of her Australian artist-in-residence at the Shanghai World Expo in August.  Yanjirlpirri Mungangka - Under the Night Sky”, is in recognition of her growing reputation as an artist and in reaction to strong public demand for her work and will be hosted in Singapore, to coincide with her ‘artist in residency’ at ReDot Fine Art Gallery.

 

Nungarrayi paints for the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Cooperation which operates from a small gallery and workshop in the heart of Yuendumu – a township on Aboriginal land 300 dusty kilometres from Alice Springs in central Australia.

 

Warlukurlangu is a Warlpiri word meaning “belonging to fire” and is also the name of an important ceremonial and sacred site a few kilometres west of Yuendumu.

In conjunction with National Day celebrations, the Singapore Flyer is also introducing a photographic exhibition entitled Times of Our Lives @ the Singapore Flyer, a one-of-a-kind collection of images that captures vividly the hopes, dreams, aspirations and experiences of a nation and its people in transition. Special edition Singapore Flyer MatchUp Cards have also been exclusively produced to let visitors to the iconic destination take home with them a piece of Singapore’s amazing heritage and allow youth in Singapore to better appreciate our culture and heritage.

During the exhibition, visitors who correctly answer some trivia questions will be rewarded with a set of Singapore Flyer MatchUp Cards. Clues to the questions are embedded in the exhibits and write-ups.

Supported by the Singapore Heritage Society, Singapore Flyer MatchUp Cards comprise a total of 26 images, each printed across two cards. The 26 images reflect themes that showcase Singapore’s milestones in aviation, transportation, sports, with landmarks and attractions that uniquely differentiate Singapore from the world. With each picture captioned with historical dates, the Singapore Flyer MatchUp Cards serve to educate players during the card-matching game, on the momentous chapters of Singapore’s developments to a modern society.
