If there’s one thing that unites Hong Kong, it’s our love for all things Japanese — we’re talking fresh sashimi, plenty of sake, and fat men in giant diaper thongs jostling each around. Oh wait, was that just us?
Taking place on Saturday, 23 November 2013, SumoSushiSakeHK (try saying that three times fast) brings all that together under one roof as our city’s first sumo, sushi and sake festival.
The one-day event is a partnership between entrepreneur Kelvin Ng and general manager of JFC Hong Kong, Masatoshi Sakane, and takes place at the Indian Recreation Club across the Hong Kong stadium (the same venue as Erdinger Oktoberfest and Wine HK).
Expect plenty of food at SumoSushiSakeHK, including sushi from Wabi Sabi, yakitori from Nan Tei and ramen from Nagahama No. 1 Ramen. Morikawa Bento, Sugo Sushi, Fork-Eat and Wolfgang Flying Brats will also make sure no stomach is left empty as you enjoy an exciting lineup of sumo wrestling matches courtesy of Hong Kong Sumo, live music and even some hot dog eating competitions.
The festival will also have over 100 types of sake and shochu from Honjozo, Junmai, Junmaiginjo, Daiginjo, as well as traditional Japanese distilled spirits. Desserts-wise, popular ice cream maker Lab Made will be whipping up their most popular Japanese flavours on the spot.
Tickets to SumoSushiSakeHK will be available from 1 November 2013 onwards, which are priced at HK$280 for five tokens, HK$350 for 10 tokens and HK$500 for 15 tokens plus access to the VIP seating area (tickets at the door are an additional HK$50 each).
