Multicoloured nails: 5 ways to try this summer’s hottest trend

Want to know a girl’s god-honest truth? Colours rule.

And although the pandemic situation is quite gloomy still, there is nothing to prevent us from enjoying a little vibrancy and dynamism in our looks and the selection of what to wear.

This is also true of manicures, which, in view of trends observed in the work of major nail artists and on the hands of influencers, will be more energised than ever this summer. First up in the spotlight, the go-to inspiration for many will be multicoloured nails, which offer a cheerful contrast in the wake of a particularly difficult spring.

An explosion of matte colours

Don’t hesitate to use the most vibrant shades that you can find in your vanity case, but in matte versions, to create a rainbow of colours, as in this look by the Portland Finger Bang Division (@fingerbangportland). Note the added graphic pattern in white, which plays on contrasts.

A colourful and fruity manicure

Taryn VanAlfen (@taryns.nails) has created this fruity alternative to classic multicoloured nails with three nails in salmon pink and two with vibrant fruit motifs, notably showing watermelons and lemons, which add an extra tang to this look.

Gentle pastels

Renowned nail artist Tom Bachik (@tombachik) has created this optimistic array of pastels for the summer season. The multicoloured manicure extends from lilac to pale blue with a transition through pink and yellow. A look that is easy to replicate at home.

A glossy rainbow

Fashionable nail artist Mei Kawajiri (@nailsbymei) has posted this multicoloured manicure in glossy candy colours. It is a look that she created while in lockdown in New York, which is why it announces “I Love NY.”

More discreet but still multicoloured

Graphic, colourful and at the same time discreet… Artist Hang Nguyen (@thehangedit) has decorated each finger with its own deconstructed and asymmetric rainbow. It is a nail-art look that demands meticulous attention and precision, but one which can nonetheless be reproduced at home.
