What to do in Bangkok this October
There’s never a limit to what’s going on in this city, but with all that’s on offer, sometimes you need a bit of a nudge in the right direction and some guidance on where to go, what to do and who to see. That’s why we’ve curated this very special list for you of things happening in Bangkok throughout October. From exhibitions and community workouts to a fair, poetry workshop, techno rave and an international headliner (scroll down to see who!) this October‘s got a lot going on besides Halloween.

Neilson Hays Library
Eclectic Gardens & Landscapes Exhibition, Neilson Hays Library 
When: Runs until mid-October
Following 18 months of restoration works, the Neilson Hays Library and its Rotunda and Garden Galleries are now finally open and ready to admire. Reclaiming its space in Bangkok’s vibrant art scene there will be ongoing exhibitions to look forward to. For the month of October, a number of master artists from the Stream of Arts Tarnslip Arts Foundation will have an opening exhibition which will run until mid-October. Some of the artists featured in this exhibition include Joop Prinya, Winyu Chaipong, Chalermpol Polhana, Chanarong Kosalwat and Krit Wattanakasem. Having traveled and worked together on many occasions, the artists have now joined together once more to exhibit their work in the peaceful Neilson Hays Library Rotunda Gallery amongst the beautiful greenery of the Garden Cafe Gallery.

Wandering in Portugal by Rui Palha, House of Lucie
When: October 4-31

Here is a photography exhibition of candid moments captured by Portuguese photographer Rui Palha, who took to the streets of Lisbon and beyond to find and tell his story. Born in April 1953 and growing up in Lisbon, photography became a hobby for Palha from the age of 14. His photographic world is comprised of people and their uniqueness amidst the buzz of every day life. His black and white photographs are quite astounding and are bold statements in and of themselves. This exhibition, presented by The Embassy of Portugal in Bangkok & Camões Institute for Cooperation and Language together with Bangkok’s centre for photography, House of Lucie and curated by Oya Aydin, with the kind support of B.Grimm and Thai Union.

DJ Nakadia

Nakadia All Night Long, VIOLETT

Thailand’s very own and internationally acclaimed techno DJ, Nakadia, returns home from her global touring travels to grace Bangkokians with an exclusive five hour set at VIOLETT. The Thai female DJ who has been blasting the dance music scene internationally has played at Tomorrowland this year and has been touring around Europe. We are so excited to have her back for one night. Get your dancing shoes on, it’s going to be a long one!

Bangkok World Hoop Day Celebration 2018, Benjasiri Park
When: October 6, 4pm – 7pm.

Wow, who knew that there was a World Hoop Day. Well, apparently a lot of people! This special day is celebrated each year on this very day throughout the world. In Bangkok, there’ll be some mass hula hooping going down at Benjasiri Park and your chance to  see what hooping is all about, brought to you by Kim Hoops Bangkok and Hulahoop. No experience is necessary. Hoops will be provided for you to show off your moves! Join Bangkok’s growing hoop circle in what should be a fun and eventful session. Bring a blanket and some snacks and prepare for a nice afternoon. All ages are welcome and this is free!

Hed Kandi by DJ Power Women, So Sofitel Bangkok

If commercial UK house is your thing, then you’ll definitely know about Hed Kandi. Having sold more than 5 million albums worldwide since its birth in 1999 that feature the sounds of funky, euphoric vocals, sexy, fresh and glitzy beats, the hedonistic party professionals who historically blew Ibiza away will be at the top of their game this October, adding a new spin to  Bangkok’s hottest rooftop pool party at So Sofitel. Spinning for a total of 12 hours straight, there’ll be afternoon and sunset vibes with glamorous cocktails by the pool and another session starting at 9pm, the afterparty. Spartan Race

Spartan Community Workout, O2 Fitness (All Seasons Place)

Are you getting involved in the upcoming Spartan Sprint & Beast coming up in Hua Hin? Even if you’re not, join the world’s largest obstacle race and endurance brand in what can only be regarded as one helluva (community) workout. Spartan’s obstacle races have seen more than 5 million participants jump through fire and over the finish line after pushing their bodies and minds to the limit across miles of unforgiving terrain while conquering signature obstacles such as the spear throw, bucket brigade and barbed wire crawl. Creativity Workshop, The HOME BKK
When: October 10, 7pm onwards

Creativity is an important skill to use, hone and develop in every day life and if fundamental to how we operate. But how do we become, or get more, creative? Maybe start off with this workshop, taught by Italian professor and designer Carlo Convertini. The 90 minute workshop will encourage a discussion and a play with  basic tools to learn more about creativity and how you can apply it to your life. Writin & Ridin the Green Lung, Bang Kachao

Are you an aspiring writer, a closet poet or merely looking for a creative outlet to ease your mind and eject some stress? Join Bangkok Lyrical Lunacy (LYLU) – Bangkok’s spoken word home and community – on a day trip to the Bang Kachao, AKA Bangkok’s green lung. LYLU will be hosting a series of workshops aimed to help you get in touch with yourself in the relaxing oasis of greenery. This will be a unique opportunity to reinforce the habits one must rely on to gain mastery of self. You’ll benefit from a full-day of adventure and learning including a mindfulness workshop to help you centre yourself and observe your thoughts, a writing workshop to give you the tools to formulate those ideas, and a performance workshop to prepare you to effectively communicate them to others. Kawita Vatanjyankur at Parichart Court, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel

Bangkok’s very own gallery Nova Contemporary is proud to present the playful video works of art by Kawita Vatanajyankur. The four video works will be presented as site-specific installations on view at the Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. In them Kawita explores the socio-cultural and psychological potentials of video art, utilising an inventive and artistic approach that imbues her documented craft with a sense of fragility and directness. One of the exhibited works, The Scale 2 (2015), was exhibited in 57th Venice Biennale with the Alamak! project “Islands In The Stream”.

Style Fair Bangkok

Style Bangkok, BITEC

Asia’s most stylish fair, STYLE Bangkok, is back this year, gathering the latest products from top-tier Thai and international brands that are set to shape tomorrow’s trends. From fashion and furniture to gifts and home decor, over 2,000 vendors will be making a stamp on this style feast. The fair is open for trading businesses from October 17-19, and open to the public from October 20-21. See you there, style fiends.

Bangkok International Run 2018

Bangkok International Run 2018, United Nations in Thailand
When: October 28, 5am – 8:30am

Here is a run you won’t want to miss. Probably one of the more scenic running routes of Bangkok, participants will start off and finish in front of the United Nations building on the evergreen Rajadamnern Nok Road. Pacing yourself through Bangkok’s streets, you’ll pass by the Marble Temple, Chirtralada Palace, Dusit Zoo and the National Library. As far as runs go, this one’s pretty cultured and you’ll definitely see and feel Bangkok in a more refined fashion. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to UNAIDS and partner-led initiatives to help reduce stigma around HIV positive people. The 1km kid fun run is free, the 5.5km fun run is THB 300 and the 10.7km mini-marathon is THB 400. Book your tickets via Amazing Field.

Sam Smith

Sam Smith: The Thrill Of It All Tour, Impact Arena

We can’t believe it! Our favourite English singer-songwriter is gracing Bangkok with his beautiful voice!
