The perfect way to soothe you into that sweet Friday feeling: meet the Lifestyle Asia BK Playlist.

Taking inspiration from our favourite venues about town, every last Friday of the month we’re inviting a Bangkok cool cat to curate an exclusive playlist for our readers (and listeners) to tune in to. Whatever your jam, consider it the ideal pre-game, house party, solo party, or even casual commute track list at your handy disposal. We only give our guest DJs one prerequisite: make it really, really vibe-y.

For the August edition of the Lifestyle Asia playlist, we’re heading down Silom’s infamous Soi Convent to one of the city’s most adored institutions: Vesper.

Lifestyle Asia Playlist Vesper

A real heart throb on the map of any cocktail aficionado, the buzzing bar has gained much acclaim across the region, having been listed as one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars for almost every year since its opening. It’s an impressive feat, and a wholly deserved one, as anyone who has had a chuckle with Kenny over a cocktail, or swooned over Palm and his creations, will know that Vesper is both elegantly urban yet vivaciously Bangkokian at heart. The bar spells ‘vibes’ with a capital ‘V’, buzzing almost any day of the week with a crowd that loves a cool conversation, a casual flip of the page in the drinks-list-turned-art-book, and a chic and cheeky evening out to an upbeat metropolitan soundtrack.

This month, we’re honoured to find bar owner and one half of the founding husband-and-wife-powerhouse behind the beloved Foodie Collection, Choti Leenutaphong, at our turn tables. Long a shining star in the hospitality business, Choti and his wife Debby are behind various foodie havens in Bangkok, from Il Fumo and La Dotta over to 80/20 and an exciting new project, too. Vesper, of course, is our soft spot on this list.

In an interview we previously conducted with Vesper’s notoriously infamous bar manager Palm Supawit Muttaratana, the endlessly award-winning champion described the music at the bar quite immaculately: “it’s the kind that makes you want to get up and dance, without having to actually get up and dance.” Similarly, Choti’s playlist for Lifestyle Asia follows in exactly this tone, composed of tracks that the bar has been playing since its opening days to the present.

It’s the kind of mood wherein you’re instantly loosened up a little and taken on a nod-and-bob-worthy throwback, with a feel-good energy that is encompassing but not intrusive. Expect anything from Prince (Choti loves a good Prince track) and Depeche Mode, over to Polo & Pan and Flight Facilities. The Pet Shop Boys make an appearance, and so does N.E.R.D., coming together with Daft Punk to truly capture Vesper’s spirit and charm.

Sure, Vesper finds the inspiration for its name and interiors in many a James Bond reference, yet something tells us all Moore, Connery, Brosnan, and Craig could sit by the dark green marble bar and jam a little to this one. Taking the lyrics straight from Souls of Mischief, it’s “’93 ’til Infinity” — or so at least, we’re made to feel when we’re listening to this playlist. All in order or shuffled up, have a listen below, and sink into that wonderful weekend feeling. Happy Friday.
