The perfect way to soothe you into that sweet Friday feeling: meet the Lifestyle Asia BK Playlist. Taking inspiration from our favourite venues about town, every month we’re inviting a Bangkok cool cat to curate an exclusive playlist for our readers (and listeners) to tune in to. Whatever your jam, consider it the ideal pre-game, house party, solo party, or even casual commute track list at your handy disposal. We only give our guest DJs one prerequisite: make it really, really vibe-y.
This month, we’re curating the playlist ourselves, because real love begins with the self.
As we slowly seem to be swatting away the peskier elements in the air like PM 2.5 and Coronavirus (though, still, stay cautious, not a joke), there is one element that seems to be floating about town bigger and bolder than any other. Say it with us, embrace the cheese, bring on the red and pink attire: it’s love.
Galleries’ Night 2020 is just around the corner, with a theme entitled ‘Love is in the Art’, and indeed there are plenty of cultural happenings themed around the big warm and fuzzy this month. Committed, single, or overdosing on some Pringles, we should be celebrating love every day and every month in every arena, but there’s clearly also no denying that February always climbs to the top of the calendar as the ultimate month to catch feels, boast about feels, and feel all the feels.

And so we put our heads and hearts together. A collaborative effort of our favourite love-themed jams, the Lifestyle Asia Playlist for February (and subsequently for Valentine’s Day) is a mix of the classics with the contemporary.
We begin with a favourite that is reminiscent of when we walked into a Chinatown bar one afternoon when Besame Mucho was playing as the lilies swayed in Iron Balls gin bottles for glasses, and fresh passion fruit was prepped for service. From here, the playlist follows on with a few classics (it would’ve been weird not to include Sexual Healing, let’s be real), before slipping into some of the tracks from ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. Remember when that was released in cinemas on Valentine’s Day a few years ago?
Moving switfly along — the genres then broaden a little to fit everything from Kanye to Daniel Caesar and a cheeky Arctic Monkeys track, as well as Summer Salt and The Black Keys. There’s a Chris Brown number for a sultry seduction in there too, as well as All my Loving by the Beatles for those who prefer to keep it PG. We end with When a Man Loves a Woman, because single or not, we can all belt our hearts out to that one. Crank up the romance with bae over a candle-lit dinner or rock out to it yourself, and find the complete playlist below:
Happy Valentine’s Day. Happy Second Half of February. Happy listening.
