2021, what a year.
Each month this 2021, we will be highlighting a particular theme in our content, be it the appropriate staycation etiquette in the summer, or how to adequately put together a cheeseboard during the festive season. For the first month of the year, our theme may push a few of your buttons.
For January 2021, our theme is entitled ‘The Grand Restart Button.’

Whilst we can acknowledge that the pandemic did not disappear into thin air come 1 January, we can acknowledge that a new year always has something symbolically refreshing about it. We’re taking our 2021 theme with a grain of salt, but also treating it as a bit of a Swiss shower. We want to flush away bad habits, start afresh, and learn from our mistakes (and accomplishments!) in 2020.
Perhaps the past year taught us more than we realise.
Whether it’s how to be a more eco-conscious tourist, or how to take more mindful care of your skin and diet, stories this month will be themed around fostering good intentions for the coming year. How do I eat more clean food without compromising on flavour? How do I shop more sustainable fashion? And what are some local hidden gems I had not previously known about?
We’re not saying you have to be a new you in 2021, but if you want to gently pat the Restart Button and find content for your clean slate, we’re here to guide you. Find our stories throughout January linked below.
The eating habits of consumers, which have recently come under scrutiny, show an increase on the awareness of the impact of one’s over-industrialized consumption on the environment, as well as on one’s health. As a result, French people began to pay more attention to the contents of their plates during the several lockdowns this year. They consumed more organic, fair-trade and local products: a return to the essential, familiar and reassuring, in a world where nothing is familiar anymore.
If you’re looking for that natural, easy and effortless glow – it’s time to go minimal and more conscious with your skincare regime. They call it the new “glow-up” and we’re seriously intrigued now. With no-makeup as the theme, skincare is already thriving but this year, it’s about recognising what suits your skin, trimming the excess and staying true to your skin type to achieve real results. So say goodbye to OTT makeup trends, pore-clogging ingredients and fancy packaging because we’re going simple and effective in 2021.
All of a sudden the skies were emptied of airplanes, trains were running nearly empty, and everyone found themselves confined to their homes. The tourism industry essentially ground to a halt, and our own identity as travelers or tourists was transformed, shaken. Under house arrest, we rediscovered the nature around us and the wonders of proximity. And these long months should profoundly change how we travel in 2021 and beyond.
Brands have been forced to rethink their business models in order to reach out to more people, especially at home. Features like social sharing components and on-demand workouts hit peak popularity, but many have gone the extra mile to also incorporate personalisation. After all, we’re so different in so many ways.
This idea of personalisation manifests itself in many ways as you’ll see below, but they all point to one thing: The fact that people are getting less caught up in cookie-cutter ideals and more in tuned with their own specific needs. After all, wellness boils down to feeling good, and we’ll need all the endorphin boost we can get to take on the brand new year.
If there is anything to be learned from the trials and tribulations of last year, it’s that we should be kinder. To those you love. To those you don’t. To strangers, lost amidst the battles in their own lives. To yourself. Instead of New Year resolutions that dilute notions of ‘wellness‘ into trite fitness challenges that set up poor habits, think bigger. Think better.
With benefits for health, the environment and animal well-being, the vegan diet has plenty of plus points and doesn’t involve as many sacrifices as you might think. So if your new year’s resolution is to switch to a plant-based diet in 2021, or to try out the vegan lifestyle for a month with “Veganuary,” here are a few alternatives to help you make the switch.
This year, we want to do better by the visionary geniuses who have constantly churned out spectacular and collectible timepieces. It is, after all, so easy to take for granted the weeks and months required to piece together the mechanical wonders that adorn wrists around the world. On this note, we’ve come up with a few resolutions that we hope will shine a new light on your relationship with watches, collecting, and the passion that lies beneath. Who knows, you might just learn a few new things along the way.
