2020, what a year.

Each month this 2020, we will be celebrating a particular theme; be it private jet etiquette in the summer, or how to adequately pair chocolate and champagne during the festive season. For July, we’re a little nostalgic. For July, a little over halfway through the year, our theme is all about time.

We named it ‘Time Flies’ in large part in large awe over how six entire months, a full-blown pandemic, forest fires, various protests, and a craze for whipped Korean coffee have already passed us by. Granted, Dalgona, COVID-19, and an anti-racism revolution is still underway in many parts of the world, yet it’s incredible to take a step back and realise the wild time span this has all occurred within.

This July, we’re bringing a loupe to the table and exploring time in various forms. In its most literal interpretation, we’ll be looking at our favourite watch collections and styles, explaining horological lingo, and putting together guides on how to pair timepieces with tailored suits, two-tone sneakers, or timely occasions. Yet beyond the obvious, we’re also looking at how to spend your time (weekend trips), the passing of time (royal recipes), and the effect of time on place and personality (why we love Old Town East).

Whether it’s the rise of nostalgia as a fashion trend, the history of food, or the heritage of a watchmaker, there’s something really romantic about our July theme. Be sure to check back here regularly, as stories will be — in due time — linked below.

What is a tropical dial and why is it so madly valuable?

Collectors and aficionados are known to pay a hefty premium for watches with a tropical (read: imperfect and damaged) dial, in large part because they always hone an incredible history, and add a certain je ne sais quois to the average wrist appeal. A story of precious fate, we tap into what defines the tropical watch, and why it has skyrocketed and pocketed the title of some of the world’s most valuable timepieces.

The 5 fundamental rules for pairing your watch with your suit

Pairing your watch with your suit is the hottest thing since pairing your sea bass with your Sauvignon, or your puppy with your Instagram posts. No longer do we submit to wear watches merely to tell time (though, really, they’re still very good at that), but we wear watches to make a fashion statement and a personal style statement, too. Put together with a suit in immaculate combination, and you will undeniably be the best dressed man in the room, without even having to go by the name of King Karl, Pharrell, or Jake Gyllenhaal.

Suite History: 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai, a Southeast Asian story on stilts

On doing our homework nose-deep into a history book, we uncovered that the number of pillars that hold up a traditional Thai house is directly correlated to how wealthy and important the house owner is. 137 Pillars House is named after the extremely impressive number of pillars that support it, and whilst there’s not denying that each and every one of its owners and inhabitants have been and remain ‘wealthy and important’, the story that surrounds its near 200 years of being are even moreso curious.

A guide to looking after your luxury watches so they will last generations

Whilst reliability and accuracy can be expected from your luxury watch, your trusty companion can only tolerate so much wear and tear before it displays symptoms of fatigue. It is a natural result of any machinery that operates with friction, so giving your luxury watch the right care can make all the difference between it lasting a couple of years or surpassing generations.

Nutritionist Non-Confidential: what to actually eat while intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting is one of the top lifestyle trends this year — not only because we came out of COVID-19 looking a little chubbier and tubbier, but also because it has proven results with (relatively) little effort required. Nevertheless, as with all diets (and diet fads), it’s important to be properly informed before embarking on a journey of changing your eating habits. Here, Dr. Priya Khorana gives us the ultimate low-down on intermittent fasting, from the perspective of someone who really knows a thing or two about this stuff. Read on, take note, and decide for yourself if you’re ready to (stomach) rumble.
