Unique Eats: Bangkok bites we loved (to order for delivery) this April 2020

Bangkok’s restaurants are placing Thailand’s culinary scene on the world stage, and they keep progressing with new creative dishes.

And even though the whole city is on a partial Coronavirus lockdown, Bangkok still seems to never run dry of unique eats to try — just now available through delivery services, instead of in-restaurant. So if you’re currently cruising the streets (or your food delivery apps) searching for distinctive and uncompromisingly delicious food, we’ve curated a list of 7 stunning yet sumptuous dishes we tried this month that are bound to delight you. Let’s jump right onto the unique eats bandwagon and stay up-to-date with Bangkok’s culinary scene, shall we?

Lucky Fish

Sando, the Japanese-style sandwich, has always been a hot item but it seems that it has created an even greater sensation in the food trend world in the past few months. If there’s anywhere in Bangkok that’s a true sando killer, it’s Lucky Fish. Their recently launched menu features sleek items like Smoked Pork Loin Katsu Sando (THB 350), Chicken Cheese Katsu Sando (THB 220), Seabass & Avocado Sando (THB 290), and Tamago Sando (THB 160). The apple of our eyes, of course, is the Wagyu Sando (THB 490), which comes with a thick cut of Australian Wagyu Striploin smeared generously with whole grain mustard, katsu sauce, and a rain of shredded cabbage for crunch and sweetness.

Carne BKK

Carne, together with Crab & Claw, have launched an exclusive delivery menu, showcasing gems of international cuisines like a lobster roll, beef tongue yakiniku wrap, squid risi, sweet corn succotash, wagyu beef tongue dumplings, and more. The Carne Asada (THB 990), which is our favourite, is looking handsome with beef butter fried rice bejewelled with cooked-to-perfection strip loin and golden-fried mushroom. A blob of salsa and guacamole hiding within the meaty heavenliness also adds a splash of brightness to cut through the umami-packed richness. Delicious.

Jamaican Eatz

The appeal of Jamaican cuisine, apart from the vibrant colours, comes from a naughty play of flavours. The cuisine highlights the mix of meat, veggies, and fruit in savoury meals. Arguably one of the only Jamaican restaurants in the city, Jamaican Eatz doles out some of the best Caribbean dishes. The food here mostly comes in sets, so expect to treat your taste buds with a variety of their stellar dishes all in one go. We love the Vegetarian Plate (THB 160) packed with goodies like roti bread, rice & beans, coleslaw, and charred sweet bananas.

Mia

Apart from the fancy-shmancy succulent dishes Mia is notorious for, their new addition of rice dishes for delivery is about to mark their next success in Bangkok’s dining scene. The rice bowls (each one is THB 299 net, plus delivery fee) come studded with a range of drool-inducing meats like 24 hour-cooked short ribs, braised pork belly, and pan-seared chicken breast. The jammy soft-boiled egg that comes in every bowl serves as a beautiful adornment as well as a toothsome topping. Vegetarian? By all means, opt for their the deep-fried aubergine bowl.

Little Donkey

When mentioning Little Donkey, their doughnut take on Mama’s tom yum instant noodle “Mama Donut” always tops our list for LD’s must-tries. But if you talk about their signature brunch dishes, their new Strawberry Ricotta Toast (THB 150) comes covering a cloud of house-made ricotta cheese, and dripping with jam made from Chiang Mai strawberries and olive oil. It’s pure elegance served on a toast.

Punjab Grill Bangkok

Feast as though you’re the king and queen at the Taj Mahal. Punjab Grill Bangkok churns out an array of succulent dishes so you can throw an extravagant Indian feast at home. The legend among all the items, which we insist you get, is the Chaamp Masala (THB 575). The fork-tender lamb chop curry packs a punch of luscious delectability we seriously can’t get enough of.

Biscotti

Confession: regardless of all the workout content we’ve been posting, the only exercise we really like and enjoy doing during the lockdown is the cheese pull. Biscotti’s signature Focaccia (THB 650) stuffed with mascarpone and drizzled with truffle oil boasts a cheesy effect that always keeps us going back for a second slice – or a third. It’s light yet immensely satisfying. It makes sense to see why it’s been dubbed the signature dish since years and years after the restaurant first opened its doors.
