A favourite amongst locals, the egg-custard mooncakes from Mei Jiang at The Peninsula Bangkok are simply decadent. Deliciously light, the mooncakes are handmade according to a traditional Cantonese recipe that uses organic duck eggs. Each year, Spring Moon’s dim sum chef Yip Wing Wah comes from Hong Kong to ensure the quality of these small but highly coveted mooncakes. This year, The Okura Prestige Bangkok’s La Pâtisserie is presenting their delicious mooncakes in stunning, Japanese-inspired boxes, which can be layered to carry four, eight, or 12 mooncakes (at the price of THB 988 net, THB 1,888 net and THB 2,888 net). For those who love matcha-flavoured everything, you’ll be thrilled to know that they are offering green tea mooncakes this season. At The Pagoda, chef Oscar Pun and his team have curated a selection of special mooncakes for the season, including a limited-edition mooncake (THB 2,888 for four) made with black truffle, smoked duck, roasted chestnut, egg yolk and white lotus-seed paste. With the addition of black truffle, this novel mooncake is a savoury-sweet delicacy with exquisite, earthy aromas, but don’t miss out on their signature flavours. For your fix of untraditional mooncakes, head over to Chocolab at SO Sofitel Bangkok. This year, the chocolate lab has invented four intriguing, colourful cakes: lemon with Amarena cherry, five nuts with amaretto, chocolate Baileys with macadamia nut, and mango-passion fruit. In a box of four, you can select your preferred flavours (THB 780). Within the chocolate shell, each mooncake is filled with tangy, fruity or nutty fillings. To try a “creamy custard lava mooncake”, you’ll want to head over to Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok. This petite, molten mooncake has a lava-custard filling which is made with golden, salted egg yolk. Smooth, creamy and savoury-sweet, this cake is a new addition being sold alongside with the other bestselling varieties. This includes durian, mixed fruit and nuts, lotus seed, red bean and signature cream custard, and snow skin editions. If you’re a fan of Vanilla Industry’s stylish chain of restaurants and bakeries, you won’t want to miss out on their new selection of mooncakes. Celebrate the full moon with Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok’s collection of seasonal delicacies. This year, the hotel is offering five unique flavours to please discerning palates.
