Anantara is hosting a plant-based wine pairing dinner in Phuket

Combine the words ‘plant-based’ and ‘wine pairing dinner’ together in a sentence, and you’ll likely receive a curious brow raise from whoever you’re speaking to. It isn’t often that a full vegan dinner comes as a fine dining experience, nor that it is paired with wines that are equally environmentally sustainable. This August, Anantara’s Layan Phuket resort is hosting an exclusive five-course, plant-based wine pairing dinner, presented by a master of the eco-conscious culinary craft: chef Jean-Christian Jury.

Held at Anantara’s idyllic beachfront Layan Residences, the dinner will be an all-round mindful eating experience, spanning five courses of all-vegan dishes and all-organic and biodynamic fine wines. The owner of Berlin’s La Mano Verde restaurant, chef Jean-Christian Jury has curated a special menu for the occasion, using many locally sourced ingredients.

Celebrating and spreading the health and environmental benefits of a plant-based diet, Jury is well known in the vegan food scene, most famously as the author of Vegan: The Cookbook, spanning over 450 vegan recipes. Where mindful eating meets a masterful execution of visually striking and vibrantly flavoured dishes, diners will get to enjoy a taste of these overlooking the Andaman Sea at the resort this month.

The meal will begin with an avocado, coconut, and lime gazpacho, paired with an organic Spanish Rioja wine, followed by a green papaya salad with organic French Burgundy, and a spiced Italian caponata paired with another organic Spanish Rioja wine. Next comes an onion, shiitake and Portobello fettuccine, paired with an organic French IGP Loire Valley wine, before finishing with a raw mango, lychee, and mangosteen cheesecake, paired with a biodynamic French Alsatian wine. Packing plenty of nutritious benefits into flavourful and colourfully presented dishes, diners can expect an educational and eco-centric evening experience.

A beautiful proof to the palate that vegan food, sustainable wines, fine dining, and environmental awareness can go hand in hand and sit dish to dish at the dinner table, the exclusive experience takes place Friday, 11 August at the Layan Residences in Phuket.
