Who said making cheese was hard? Try these recipes

Much like rice, cheese makes it as a permanent member of many households’ dining tables and restaurants around the world.

The only difference is, cooking rice is the art known and mastered by many, but cheese making is often left to the professionals. Many pro cooks, however, have shared their approaches to achieve gourmet cheese at home without having to spend the big bucks at the supermarket every time you crave for cheese.

Of course, you can still splurge here and there for beautiful hunks of gorgonzola, gruyère, brie, and camembert, but as for home staples like cream cheese, ricotta, and even mozzarella, here are easy-to-follow and fuss-free recipes to try at home. So apart from learning how to make sourdough bread or art pieces out of focaccia, why not add it on to your long list of quarantine cooking projects?

Fresh Mozzarella

Mozzarella is a thing of beauty. And when it comes to the cheese that melts and stretches superbly or even luscious just to eat plain on its own, mozzarella always tops the list. And those who are mozzarella geeks know this small fluffy thing almost never comes at a low price in Bangkok. Joshua Weissman will walk you through step by step on how to recreate your own mozzarella fresh and fab at home for your homemade pizza or even for a dinner’s stellar starter: caprese salad.

Homemade Cream Cheese

If you’re like us, you cannot have a bagel with its soulmate: cream cheese. Making a batch at home would ensure you always have this wonderful tangy spread on hand for whenever toast is needed or even when an afternoon tea calls for a spice-packed carrot cake.

Homemade Ricotta In Under an Hour

Ricotta cheese is an all-around wonderful ingredient to have around in your kitchen. It’s wonderful as a side player (aka sprinkled) on top of pasta, pizza and salad. Or as the main character on top of expertly toasted bread for a sharp, umami tang or stuffed inside a puff pastry or pasta shell to make a succulent filling.

Parmesan Cheese

Parmesan needs no introduction. The aged Italian hard cheese lends scrumptious richness and aroma to any dish it’s incorporated in. Although this one recipe is slightly more advanced than the others included here, it sure will be worth the time-consuming process.

Homemade Hard Cheese

It really doesn’t require much to recreate a wheel of cheese at home – and we’re talking about just eggs, sour cream, milk, salt, and white vinegar. This recipe will provide you with plenty of cheese to go around with meals for weeks.
