Jiangxiaobai Hand-craft Black Label

Jiangxiaobai holds to its ethos in creating the ‘Renaissance of the Old Flavour’ by releasing a range of baijiu that has since become popular among the younger generation thanks to its exotic-fruit sweetness and lingering aftertaste at a lower ABV. Try its Hand-craft Black Label that’s designed with a contemporary artistic touch and its baijiu is easily paired for various types of cocktails that you can make at home.

Share with Ten Guys

Share with Ten Guys is another baijiu bottle by Jiangxiaobai from its Jiangji Distillery and its known for its really palatable ABV at 25 percent. On the nose, you get light tropical fruits with a scent of honey, with a beautifully balance flavour that’s easy to drink as compared to many old-style baijiu. It is best paired with any Asian dishes.

Kweichow Moutai

Kweichow Moutai is China’s number one national liquor, mostly offered during important occasions and diplomatic exchanges. It is one of the world’s top three distilled wine, alongside Scotch whisky and French cognac. It has soft and mellow notes with long-lasting aftertaste. It is said that one shot of Kweichow Moutai can help relieve fatigue and calm you down.

Fenjiu

Fenjiu is produced in Xinghuacun Town, Fenyang, Shanxi Province with over 4,000 years of history. It is known for its light aroma, clear appearance and mellow yet refreshing expressions. The bottle is designed like traditional Chinese vases that are accentuated by its really curvaceous lines.

Guohuaci Xifengjiu

Xifengjiu bottles its baijiu, the Guohuaci in an intricate Chinese vase with intricate floral patterns just as how it was patented over 2,600 years ago. It comes in red for its 12 Years Old, white and imperial yellow for its 30 Years Old. Produced in Liulin Town, Fengxiang County in Shaanxi Province, Xifengjiu is known for its unique ‘Feng’ aroma that carries the beautiful balance of light and strong expressions.

Wu Liang Ye

Wu Liang Ye is colourless but strong and potent with a common volume of 52 percent alcohol. It is made in Yibin, Sichuan Province of five grains namely sorghum, rice, glutinous rice, wheats and corns — hence the name five grains liquid. It is best paired with chocolate ice cream.

Jiangxiaobai X Sprite

If you enjoy your ciders and shandies, you’ll like this one. Jiangxiaobai collaborated with Sprite China to come out with two unique drinks — Sprite flavoured baijiu, and baijiu flavoured Sprite. It is lightweight, easy to consume and comes in a unique packaging that’s perfect for gifting. It is only available online.

Baijiu is no longer just an old man’s drink. The Chinese liquor is seeing a revival in China and the world over with new iterations that are more palatable as shots and more versatile for cocktail making.

While legacy brands like Moutai and Wu Liang Ye continue to produce traditional baijiu that is brings the absolute kick to your palate with its sharp yet floral expressions at high alcohol content (up to 72 percent), younger brands like Jiangxiaobai are taking the front seat in developing new world baijiu at a more reasonable 40 percent alcohol content, and even flavoured ones to target the younger audience.

If you’re still new to baijiu, it is a sorghum-based alcohol that carries a sweet fragrant scent on the nose but a smooth crisp finish on the palate — much like gin or vodka. It is traditionally drunk neat in bowls or in mixers like ginger ale or orange juice. Shots of baijiu are quite potent, so pace yourself.

This Chinese New Year, why not usher the arrival of the Metal Rat with an alternative liquor that is not wine, whisky or rum. Try baijiu instead and we are sure you’ll be getting friends and family talking about this underrated Chinese liquor. Additionally, baijiu comes in beautifully designed bottles and some in intricate oriental elements — making them great gifts for the festivities.

Here are the baijiu bottles you should be pouring your guests this Chinese New Year. Ganbei!
