For the last decade or so, Asian-made cars from Japan and Korea have sprouted across the region due to its balance between performance and price. However, the past couple of years have seen the rise of American and European carmakers who are making their vehicles a lot more affordable.

Volvo XC60 Momentum

Swedish luxury automaker Volvo is known throughout for its reliability. Whether it’s the sedan or the SUV, you’re spoiled for choice. The best part: it doesn’t cost that much. The Volvo XC60 Momentum is its most affordable luxury SUV but still packing a punch. It comes with a 2.0-litre B4204T44 engine with 407hp and 640Nm of torque. However, the inside of the Volvo XC60 Momentum is where it truly shines by being clean and sleek. Driftwood decor flushes the upholstery while it’s rich Nappa leather sculpts over the R-Design contour seating to provide a comfortable ride. It’s exterior also has a personality on its own with a black mesh grille.

Mini Cooper S Clubman

The all-new Mini Cooper S Clubman is one of the best cars to have with you alongside its affordability. For under RM300,000, the Mini Cooper S Clubman comes with a whole list of features and upgrades from its previous iteration. It’s the first six-door model with lateral wing doors at the rear and to complement it, the signature circular LED headlights with an outer ring. Under the hood lies a 2.0-litre Mini TwinPower Turbo engine that produces 192hp and 280Nm of torque. This allows the car to run the century sprint in 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 228kph. Other features include the sleek MINI Yours Walknappa Leather, a Harman/Kardon audio system, and much more.

Volkswagen Golf GTI

The German automaker known as Volkswagen is proud of its heritage with the VW Beetle being its most iconic model. However, the past few years has seen the Golf GTI become one of its rising stars. At its core is the 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine that provides 226hp and 350Nm of torque. It comes with different driving styles as well as a 6-speed direct shift gearbox. On its styling, it carries VW’s signature GTI look, complete with a new body kit and spoiler for a more sporty demeanour. Safety is of utmost important to VW, which is why the Golf GTI comes with a host of safety features. Lexus ES 250 Premium

Lexus is all about premium materials and bespoke craftsmanship. While all that is reserved for its higher-tier models, the Lexus ES 250 Premium still has plenty to offer. For one, it sports a new and bold look for better aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. It also has a new unique spindle grille that you can find on the other new Lexus cars. On the inside, you’ll spot the ES’ shimamoku trim with a sleek and polished finish. Aside from that, there is also a moon roof and a vibrant 8-inch multi-information screen. At its core is the redesigned 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, putting out 204hp and 247Nm of torque. This bad boy can sprint from 0-100kph in 9.1-seconds with a top speed of 210kph.

Mercedes-Benz A 250 AMG Line

Mercedes-Benz has a wide range of different cars for different tastes. If you’re looking to purchase your first Mercedes for a slightly more affordable price than its other models, the A-Class 250 AMG Line is a good starting point. You get the AMG body styling from front to rear as well as on the interior. For the upholstery, you can choose between ARTICO man-made leather or microfibre DINAMICA black. The rest of the interior comes with a light longitudinal-grain aluminium trim with a multifunctional sports steering wheel in nappa leather. As for the engine, it carries a revised M260 2.0-litre engine with 224hp and 350Nm of torque. It’s capable of hitting 100kph in just 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 250kph.

BMW 330i M Sport

The BMW 3 Series is in its seventh generation, which is arguably its greatest yet. The BMW 330i M Sport is one of the greatest performance cars from BMW without depleting your bank account. It features the M Sports package with an edgy, sporty, and dynamic design. What makes it run is the 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine with 258hp with a peak torque of 400Nm.  It also comes with a top speed of 250kph and capable of performing a century run in just 5.8 seconds. Technological innovations are also present in the BMW 330i M Sport, thanks to the BMW Connected Package Professional subscription. This includes roadside and personal assistance as well as the BMW Digital Key via smartphone.
