Rolls-Royce takes luxury to the dark side with the new Adamas Collection

Being goth doesn’t mean you can’t be posh. In catering to their demanding and increasingly diverse clientele, Rolls-Royce has decided to drive luxury down the darker road with the Adamas Collection, a small-batch run of extra-dark, extra-decadent Wraiths and Dawns.

Rolls-Royce takes a drive down the dark side with the Adamas Collection.

‘Adamas’, as we’re informed, is an Ancient Greek word which can mean several things, including ‘invincible’, ‘untameable’, and ‘diamond’, so predictably Rolls-Royce took these buzzwords quite literally when creating the 40 Wraiths and 30 Dawns. The most recognisable emblem, the Spirit of Ecstasy, is now delicately and painstakingly fashioned out of 294 layers of aerospace-grade carbon fibre over 68 hours. She balances lightly atop a titanium base in a dark finish.

The obsidian treatment continues down the car, with its signature two-tone exterior finish now an ominous combination of either Aphrodite Red (black-red) or Morpheus Blue (black-blue), both complemented by the intimidating black grille vanes at the front.

88 diamonds rest snugly beneath the dashboard clock.

Inside is where rolls-Royce slips a little colour into the Adamas series. A mandarin Orange or Cobalt Blue colour scheme punctuates the luxurious interiors. But forget about all that, because all you’ll be looking at is the centerpiece of the car: 88 laboratory-grown diamonds that form a Black Badge infinity symbol in the dashboard clock frame. It’s a humble reminder of “the restless spirits of the inhabitants of these motor cars.”

The legendary clock also gets an upgrade- its face is fashioned with machined aluminum chaplets and a polished aluminum inner bezel.

Instead of the usual starry sky, the optic light display now features the molecular structure of carbon.

Like the Wraith Luminary Collection, the headliner of the Wraith Adamas incorporates 1,340 individual optic lights. In place of the usual constellation-of-your-choice option is a dazzling display of the carbon molecular structure as it becomes a diamond.

It’s an open secret that Rolls-Royce can pretty much make the car of your dreams whenever you want, as long as you have a cheque book that can tolerate the consequences. However, the no-holds-barred display of showmanship for the Adamas collection is a reminder of why this marque is still so revered in the automobile industry.

So if you know a brooding raven-haired, eye-lined goth that also happens to have a personal bank vault, point him in this direction.
