There’s no denying it: Pantone’s Colour of the Year has long been influencing the choice of colours for industry design, marketing, and even private purposes. This year is no different.

Highlighting 2021’s mood and vibe, the chosen hue for this year consists of not one but two colours: PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating. It signifies communal hope for better post-pandemic days and the strength that gets us through a tough time.

The Pantone Color Institute interprets this in terms of two contrasting hues of gray and yellow. The Ultimate Gray depicts steadiness and strength whilst the bright yellow paints a vivid sensation, representing optimism and hopeful cheer.

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock-solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit” explains Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of The Pantone Color Institute.
