The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it a slew of issues even outside of the health crisis itself.

Especially for girls and women around the world, domestic abuse has become a huge problem, with cases only on the rise. Now, Gucci and the Kering Foundation are stepping up to help with their new campaign, #StandWithWomen.

Launched through Gucci’s charity organisation, Chime for Change, the campaign aims to raise funds for non-profit organisations that are supporting victims of gender-based violence during the coronavirus crisis.

“Now more than ever is the time to join together to protect the health, safety and human rights of girls and women around the world,” says Chime for Change co-founder, Salma Hayek. “We stand in solidarity with women everywhere because we cannot risk the progress we have made in the long fight for gender equality.”

The #StandWithWomen campaign will benefit a list of humanitarian organisations around the world, including the Ms. Foundation in the US, the Rosa Fund in the UK, Equality Now in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the Global Fund For Women, which supports sister funds in Hong Kong, France and Mexico. The campaign’s various partners are all focused on ensuring the safety, health and justice of all women — including women of colour, transgender women, Indigenous women and disabled women.

As part of the initiative, Chime for Change has also teamed up with the crowdfunding platform, Global Giving, to distribute the donations. You can contribute to the cause yourself by heading to the official #StandWithWomen website, where you can pick an organisation to support.

This isn’t Gucci’s only philanthropic effort in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In March, the Italian fashion brand made a €1 million (S$1,552,537.80) donation to Italy’s National Civil Protection Department to support the country’s healthcare services, and another to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
