Back in 2013, Galleries’ night made its debut in Thailand inspired by the white nights of Paris, only to bring a new wave of art to Bangkok, making it an essential part of our cultural calendar. This February, Bangkok brings back a slice of La Nuit Blanche to the city, under the cultural blanket of local and international contemporary art once again.
There’s no doubt that over the years, Bangkok has been brimming with a buzzing contemporary art scene. We are proud and blessed to see it grow so immensely as it continues to get bigger and better every year. This cultural season, Bangkok once again welcomes the Galleries’ Night for the seventh time running, for all like-minded creative curators and art lovers out there. Taking place on Valentine’s Day weekend between 14 and 15 February, hop on a tuk-tuk for a very special art spree, and show the Bangkok art scene some love.
A romantic date around the city
This time under the neon concept of “Love is in the art”, the city will be painted vibrantly with an arcade of art, culture, and everything beautiful from 14-15 January 2020 starting at 5pm. It’s the perfect opportunity to take your partner on a romantic adventure, as you discover galleries in Silom, Sathorn, Sukhumvit, and Riverside areas. Fall in love all over again with local and global art.
What to expect this year
Just like every time, the Embassy of France in Thailand will bring “La Fete” to Galleries’ Night, but this time, more than 70 galleries and 250 artists from Thailand and all around the world will be present. It’s a grand moment for Bangkok to bring a myriad of talent into one place. We will see dedicated tuk-tuks take over the art space so visitors can travel easily from one gallery to another. Expect to see unique contemporary creations, dances, screenings, artist meetings, painting performances, and even live talks, at more than 50 galleries and art spaces in Bangkok.
A sneak peek
The app and the map
Not sure how to navigate your way through? Thanks to Pimclick, there’s a Galleries’ Night app available for all smartphones (Apple and Android store) so you won’t get lost. But of course, if you are a bit old-school and want to have a tangible map on your hand, then a print map will also be provided for free at all the venues. Whilst on the first day there will be more than 44 galleries, the second day will feature more than 26 galleries in Sukhumvit.
Galleries’ Night 2020 takes place on 14 February at participating Silom, Sathorn, and Riverside galleries, and on 15 February Ari, Pathumwan, and Sukhumvit galleries. Both evenings begin at 5pm and go on until late.
We are proud to be the media partner for this event along with other media partners: Pimclick, Soimilk, A day, DON’T, Latitudes, and Bam (Bangkok Art Map). This would also not be possible without BMA (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration), TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand), BACC (Bangkok Art and Culture Centre), Thaibev, Perrier, Thai Airways, Jim Thompson, and Aesop.
