Exciting news for sneaker heads.

Just last Friday, Onitsuka Tiger unveiled a very special collab with Valentino at their Global Flagship Store in Siam Square One. A highly anticipated partnership between the Italian luxury fashion brand and the beloved Japanese sneaker label, the limited-edition collection saw fresh pops of colour and the launch of a very exclusive model.

Here’s what you need to know about this vibrant new collaboration, and why you should definitely cop yourself a pair.

Thoughtful design

Inspired by the Onitstuka Tiger model MEXICO 66, Creative Director at Valentino Pierpaolo Piccoli brings together a design harmony between the two brands.

We see the iconic Valentino ‘V’ logo positioned boldly on top of the Onitsuka Tiger Stripes on the outside of the upper shoe, painted meticulously by hand. On the inside, on the shoe tongue, there is a special label to honour the logos of both brands, accompanying the co-branded logos on the inner sole, too.

Beyond fashion, the shoe also presents much for function, with a high-cushioning material in the heel of the midsole. The outside is made of a unique material, giving the shoe great durability and traction, as well as a stylish streetwear edge.

A bright burst of colour

Yet perhaps what strikes us the most about the special collaboration is the colour scheme.

Those with an eye on the trend and a pulse on the world of the Parisian runway will recognise some of these hues from Valentino’s previous Autumn Winter 2020 Men’s Collection. The shoe comes in shades reminiscent of this show, featuring a classic ‘WHITE’ but also bright neon ‘SHOCKING ORANGE’, ‘SAFETY YELLOW,’ and ‘HOT PINK.’

All of these four models will be available at various Valentino boutiques around the world, as well as on the official online store.

Exclusive models for collectors

There are also exclusive models every collector should know about — and should get their hands on while they’re hot.

Among the most exciting is the ‘WHITE/CLASSIC RED’ rendition, which comes as a Japan-only limited edition. The model will be launched and sold only at select stores in Japan, with proceeds of its sale being donated to an NPO organisation working for Covid-19 relief.

If heading to Japan isn’t quite on the cards right now, another highly popular option to consider is the ‘WHITE/DIRECTOIRE BLUE’, which features the brand’s signature ‘Tricolor Color’. For Thai-based collectors, the shoe is available for purchase in Bangkok only at the Onitsuka Tiger Global Flagship Store at Siam Square One.

Only 54 pairs of the limited-edition ‘Tricolor Color’ collaboration sneaker are available in Thailand. They are priced at THB 18,999 each, and we have a feeling we’re definitely going to be racing you to Siam Square One to get a pair.
