All together now: the Stella McCartney x The Beatles collection arrives in Bangkok

Although it’s impossible that we’ll ever have a Beatles reunion, one of the band members’ daughter is bringing them all together again in style. Aptly named ‘All Together Now’, the Stella McCartney x The Beatles capsule collection celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first screening of Yellow Submarine, a film inspired by The Beatles’ music. We can see quite clearly how the collection takes inspiration from the film’s psychedelic colours, lyrics, graphics, and comedy, but Stella McCartney reaches deeper into her personal relationship with the band.

Having developed from a song to a book and film, Yellow Submarine is all about unity, harmony, and solidarity. These ideas go hand-in-hand with the spirit of Stella McCartney, who clearly takes after her father. As a designer, McCartney always connects her fashion to a social responsibility. Her Stella McCartney x The Beatles collection champions The Beatles’ spirit of togetherness. The idea of people coming together seems to be an incredibly relevant political issue in 2019, and the items in this collection all express this dream for peace and harmony.

Several pieces in this capsule collection share The Beatles’ most famous words: “all you need is love”. There are also lyric-driven knitwear and jerseys printed with the phrase “All Together Now” in multiple languages. The idea of connecting people from diverse backgrounds with a single message is the essential spirit of the band, and of McCartney herself too.

Exploring other songs in Yellow Submarine, Stella McCartney’s whimsical dresses and shirts feature colourful circus-esque prints inspired by ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’.

A fur-free jacquard coat pays homage to the band’s marching uniforms. There’s also a faux fur coat in fantastically psychedelic colours featuring illustrations of the band members taken from the graphic art of Yellow Submarine.

These pop-art portraits of the the band members can be found as appliques and patches on several items.

The capsule collection is a part of the brand’s main Autumn/Winter 2019 collection. Of course, every piece sticks to Stella McCartney’s standards for sustainability and care for the environment, which is all the more significant in a collection that is all about love and togetherness. Organic cottons and yarns are used in the capsule, with an added focus on upcycled vintage patches and fabrics.

The good news is that Stella McCartney x The Beatles is now available to shop in Bangkok. Head over to the new pop-up by Club 21 in Emquartier, where there are headphones and music players available so that you can shop the colourful pieces while listening to the songs from Yellow Submarine.

The Beatles say no to 99.9% of collaborations. But being such an iconic and universally known band, there’s so much paraphernalia from The Beatles flooding the market anyway, simply replicating their iconography. Stella McCartney is one of the very few who can truly place the spirit of the Beatles into a collection with authenticity and heart.

The fact that her father made an exception to allow his daughter to do so makes this collection an extremely special and incredibly rare one.

The Stella McCartney x The Beatles capsule collection is located in front of Club 21 Thailand, Emquartier (M/F).
