If you only use one single beauty product in Bangkok, please let it have SPF. Sun protection is the number one thing you can do for your skin, which makes Supergoop! your best friend for all time. To put it simply, it’s an all-in-one tub of skin goodness. Packaged in a mock cereal box, the Supergoop! Superscreen is like breakfast – something you should start everyday with. It doesn’t just stop at SPF either. The Superscreen also protects you from pollution, travel, changeable weather, and Blue Light (those harmful rays being emitted from your screen). The texture is light and creamy, and you don’t need to put on loads – just one dab is enough to deliciously moisturise your skin.
Available at Sephora. Locations: G/F Siam Centre, Rama I Road, Bangkok 10330 (10am-10pm). M/F Emquartier, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, 10110 (10am-10pm). 2/F Central Embassy, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-9pm). 1/F ICONSIAM, Charoen Nakohn Road, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm). THB 1,750.
Dolce & Gabbana Peony Lovers Blush Touch (limited edition)
It’s surprisingly difficult to find a blusher that’s easy to apply. During the hotter months, using brushes or your own fingers on your face frequently can be a bad idea if you’re prone to getting spots. So, a cleaner and super convenient way to apply blusher is with a sponge applicator. And it doesn’t get any easier than Dolce & Gabbana’s new Blush Touch. The retractable sponge blush stick is from their special collection, ‘Peony Lovers’, to celebrate the beautiful Peony season. Everybody loves these gorgeous, voluptuous pink flowers and D&G (masters in florals) bring that beauty right to your cheeks – with three shades to choose from. The lightweight, whipped cream texture is refreshing to apply and gives you a soft and naturally rosy (or rather peony-y) glow. Oh, and it smells gorgeous too.
Available at Dolce & Gabbana. Locations: M/F Siam Paragon, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). M/F ICONSIAM, Charoen Nakohn Road, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm). THB 1,400.
Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Gloss Film Foundation
Another beauty must-have for the hot and humid season is a good waterproof foundation. You know, so you don’t get those dreaded sweat trails. Hands down the best waterproof coverage we’ve seen this year is Koh Gen Do’s Gloss Film Foundation. The foundation has that kind of “soft focus” texture that is incredibly effective for smoothing out pores and imperfections. It also instantly brightens your skin as well as providing it with SPF and nourishing vitamins. All of that comes with an elegant black mirror case and a cushion puff so you can easily touch-up whenever you need to (you won’t ever really need to, though).
Available at Koh Gen Do. Locations: Eve and Boy, Siam Square One, ZPell Future Park Rangsit, Fashion Island, and Mega Bangna. THB 1840
Pat McGrath Luxetrance Lipstick
The cult make-up brand from a cult make-up artist arrived in Bangkok this year, finally. So this summer, it’s imperative you get your hands on their luxurious creamy lipsticks that are both protective and alluringly colouring for your lips. It’s impressively long-lasting; hugging onto every curve of your lips while retaining that irresistibly silky sheen. It’s the perfect second skin for your lips, even offering a biomimetic shield against harmful agents and dryness. With Water Lily extract and a deluxe zero-bleeding formula, there’ll be no more of that flaky red lips struggle.
Available at Sephora. Locations: G/F Siam Centre, Rama I Road, Bangkok 10330 (10am-10pm). M/F Emquartier, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, 10110 (10am-10pm). 2/F Central Embassy, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-9pm). 1/F ICONSIAM, Charoen Nakohn Road, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm). THB 1,450.
DHC Deep-Cleansing Oil
If you’ve never heard of DHC then we hate to break it to you: you’re late to the game. This Japanese skincare brand focuses on olive-oil based products that are all natural and free from chemicals. Their Deep Cleansing Oil gently extracts impurities from your skin and can remove even the most stubborn of make-up. You might wince at the notion of using any oil on your face in the summer, but this is an incredibly light cleanser that leaves just the right amount of clean moisture after rinsing. It saves your skin from producing excess oil that can lead to blemishes. In fact if you do suffer from blemishes, this cleanser leaves your skin feeling soothed and calmed.
Available at DHC, Boots, Watsons. THB 805.
DIOR BACKSTAGE Glow Face Palette
If there’s one beauty look that never fails in the summer, it’s the bronze look. Dior’s latest makeup collection, DIOR BACKSTAGE, is all about achieving professional level results without the actual professionals. We love their Glow Face Palette that includes a peachy shimmer, and a pearly highlighter, and the most glorious bronzer with a kind of otherworldly holographic accent. The great thing about the palette is that it can also be used for some quick and light contouring. The texture is unbelievably easy to blend, the shimmer is not overwhelming but rather more reflective, so overall you end up with a brilliant natural finish. This is pretty much the easiest and most dependable way to slick on that summer bronze glow whenever you want.
Available at Dior. Locations: M/F ICONSIAM, Charoen Nakohn Road, Bangkok 10600 (10am-10pm). G/F Central Chidlom, Rama I Road, Bangkok 10330 (10am-9pm). G/F Emporium, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok 10110 (10am-8pm). M/F Siam Paragon, Rama I Road, Bangkok 10330 (10am-10pm). 1/F Central World, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). THB 2050.
Kanebo Illuminating Serum
We know we’re always going to be facing a lot of sun when living in Bangkok, so a good protective serum is an absolute must. Our favourite this season is the Illuminating Serum from the premium, and recently rebranded, Japanese skincare brand Kanebo. The light milky serum instantly brightens your skin tone while also specifically targeting hyper-pigmentation. In only two weeks, any dark spots caused from the sun are faded. It’s all down to one of Kanebo’s key concepts: their products work with your skin’s biological clock. Following the instructions of when and how to apply their products correctly will mean you get some incredibly effective results. That level of detail in skincare technology is surely worth splurging on. Your sun-scorched skin will thank you this summer.
Available at Kanebo. Locations: M/F Siam Paragon, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). 1/F Central World, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). M/F ICONSIAM, Charoen Nakhon Road, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm). M/F Emquartier, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok 10110 (10am-10pm). G/F Central Chidlom, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). THB 6,000.
