The best dressed at the 75th Venice Film Festival

Among the European roster of film festivals, the Venice Film Festival stands apart in its quiet glamour. The Italian cinematic extravaganza is, after all, the oldest film festival in the world — making it one of the most important fixtures on the cinema calendar since its inception in the 1930s.

Held from 29 August till 8 September, the fete’s 75th edition promises to deliver a feast of big-screen delicacies. The roll call of auteurs, from the Coen brothers to Damien Chazelle, elicit a keen anticipation in itself. Other major highlights include the likes of Suspiria, the horror thriller debut of Call Me by Your Name’s Luca Guadagnino; A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper’s directorial premiere which stars Lady Gaga; and Chanel’s digitised restoration of 1961’s Last Year in Marienbad which features Coco Chanel’s costume designing flair.

Of course, part and parcel to the festivity is its historic red carpet fashion. As Venice’s Palazzo del Cinema had once played witness to the sartorial elegance of Elizabeth Taylor and Brigitte Bardot, it now rolls out its red carpet to welcome 2018’s silver screen sirens and suave leading men. From Lady Gaga’s confection of Valentino couture to the all-blood red dress code of Suspiria’s Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, swipe through the slides for all the best looks from the 2018 Venice Film Festival.
