Why everybody needs a pair of platform sandals when they feel low

Whenever you feel low, get high platform sandals.

In case you’ve missed the memo: this summer is all about comfort. We’re wearing slides as has-been high heels and bucket hats to cover unwashed hair, as athleisure reigns supreme and loungewear is the new black.

A result of lockdown after lockdown, and pandemic pandemonium, the rise of platform sandals comes as no real surprise. They hit that perfect mark between “I want to wear something easy” and “I want to look like I tried.”

A chunky juxtaposition thereby, we love platform sandals for their seemingly heavy look on our — by comparison — delicate and fragile legs. What’s more, they also offer plenty of height to those of us who weren’t gifted in the height department, without the pain of wearing actual heels. Platform sandals are like a big hug, then, really.

Here, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite platform sandals of the minute. Whether you wear them to run errands or you wear them to a (safe and socially distanced) brunch with the girls, there’s a shoe for everyone. Think of it this way: platform sandals put you on a little podium of your own. This is where you belong. This is where you read on.

Stella McCartney is one of the designers who put platform sandals and sneakers on the map in recent years. The brand makes a host of platform shoes, and the Emilie design is certainly a cult favourite. In this sandal rendition, the slingback strap makes the pair easy to put on and take off (summer essential) whilst still boasting those signature ridged platforms. Made from vegetarian leather (yup), it’s definitely something for the eco-conscious shopper, too.
