Everything you need to celebrate G-Day 2020

Maybe it won’t pop up on your iCal as an official holiday. But this isn’t some strange typo of Valentine’s Day. For those who haven’t heard of it, Galentine’s Day – or G-Day – is the best made-up holiday there ever was.

Usually celebrated the day before Valentine’s, this is a day dedicated solely to the girl gang. It was invented by the character Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation, and she described it like this: “Every February 13, my ladyfriends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies.” G-Day is all about celebrating fun times, health, and beauty with our dearest gal pals. Really, why isn’t this an official holiday?

Whether you’re single, dating, married, or whatever you want to call it – there’s always room to celebrate your friendships and womanhood. There’s no better excuse to make a whole day of it than the idea of Galentine’s Day. Get inspired by our top picks for all things pampering, indulging, and empowering. Oh, and we know that sometimes organizing and booking things can be a real pain, so we’ve also included some D.I.Y. options for an at-home spa day. That’s the best kind, after all.

Face Masks

First things first, of course. This is the staple of all girls’ nights in. Put on Romi and Michelle’s High School Reunion (a ridiculously good film), kick back in your masks, and enjoy the glow.

Top picks:

  1. Lush Mask of Maganminty (315g)
Available at Lush. Locations: Siam Centre, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). ICONSIAM, 299 Charoen Nakhorn Road, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm).THB 1195.

One of our favourite treats, this is a mask that does it all. Treat your beautiful face (or body) with gentle but effective natural ingredients including honey, kaolin, peppermint oil and adzuki beans which all serve to exfoliate, nourish, and smooth your skin. This is a sure pick for glowing skin, and it’s subtle minty aroma will refresh all your senses. Honestly, your skin looks and feels magnificent after.

  2. Glamglow supermud clearing treatment
Available at Sephora. Locations: Emquartier, G Floor, 689 Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, 10110 (10am-10.30pm). Siam Centre, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). ICONSIAM, M Floor, 299 Charoen Nakhorn, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm). Central World, Level 2, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). THB 810.

First of all, we love the name ‘supermud’. Secondly, this face mask makes us actually feel our skin glowing. The blend of activated charcoal and K-17 clay fights skin imperfections by loosening dead cells to leave fresh, smooth skin behind. We won’t lie – we also love this mask because the colour and texture looks really cool.

  3. Dr Jart+ Shake & Shot Luminous Shot Shaking Rubber Mask
Available at Sephora. Locations: Emquartier, G Floor, 689 Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, 10110 (10am-10.30pm). Siam Centre, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). ICONSIAM, M Floor, 299 Charoen Nakhorn, Bangkok, 10600 (10am-10pm). Central World, Level 2, Rama I Road, Bangkok, 10330 (10am-10pm). THB 360.

If you’re looking for a little more fun with your face mask mission, this is the way to go. It’s a perfect product to celebrate Galentine’s because it will remind you of both those glitzy cocktail nights with your girlfriends and those science classes you messed around in together. Mix the solutions together, shake them up, apply the mixture on to your face with the spatula, and let your skin drink up the luminising cocktail of juicy vitamins and minerals. Warning: you’ll probably make a mess.

D.I.Y Face Mask

Our pick for a D.I.Y. recipe uses papaya because living in Thailand means we have pretty easy access to this amazing skin food and we should definitely take advantage of it. The combination with honey means the mask is especially good for dealing with hyper-pigmentation, sun spots, and uneven skin tone.

How to make it:

  1. Blend together two tablespoons of honey and a half-cup of mashed papaya.
  2. Gently apply the mixture over your face for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Wash it off and moisturise

Nail Spas

All the single ladies, put your hands up. (And show off your killer manicure).
