It’s only January and brands are busy putting their heads together to create highly-anticipated collaborations for our design-yearning eyes. From revival of Rajasthani block prints to tributes to the Year of the Ox; from vertigo-inducing, Swarovski-encrusted high heels to designer camping tents, we have the dossier on all the collaborations that are set to make 2021 more glamorous.

It’s time to embrace the great outdoors as Gucci x The North Face hits e-stores this month. This collection marks Gucci’s foray into the world of collaborations under Alessandro Michele, and is a step towards the Italian fashion houses’ sustainability efforts. The American outdoor recreational goods company is no stranger to collaborations and this eco-conscious collection heavily uses ECONYL, a nylon fabric made using regenerated materials to cement its stand. Glamping is going to get more lucrative this year as you stock up on puffer jackets, hiking boots, and even sleeping bags and tents with floral prints and a retro Gucci logo. Adding to the street cred is their tie-up with Pokémon GO, which will allow players to collect a promo code to get cosmetic items for the game.
Louis Vuitton’s collaboration with bespoke bike manufacturer, the 100-year-old Maison TAMBOITE Paris has resulted in handmade, made-to-order bikes. The all-new LV Bike borrows from the maison’s classic style with the fashion house’s monogram flower chainset on the plates and the interlocking LV logo on the pedals. Pick between red, blue, black or yellow; with or without basket and with engraved initials. Either ways this is one hell of a stylish ride.
The theme behind Japanese animated film, My Neighbour Totoro, is that of fantasy and hope even during hard times, depicted through the tale of two young girls who encounter a giant, cuddly cat called Totoro. This celebration of juvenescence comes alive in designer Jonathan Anderson’s Loewe collaboration with the production house Studio Ghibli for a fashion line. Available exclusively on the Loewe and Selfridges websites, the collection consists of sweatshirts, bags, jackets with embellished, illustrated characters. The campaign, shot by Gray Sorrenti, contrasts real landscapes with images of the lovable characters. On our radar: The hammock drawstring bag with the bulbous cat.
You know it’s a collaboration that’s going to go big in 2021 when Rihanna wears it to ring in the New Year. Confirming her involvement with rapper A$AP Rocky, Rihanna paired a gold bikini and lamé skirt with her Amina Muaddi X AWGE crystal-encrusted gladiator heels. While the collaboration between the Paris-based, Italian designer/influencer launched in December, Rihanna’s stamp of approval, combined with the new designs that are in the pipeline, makes it one of the top shoe lines to step out in.
It’s the Year of the Ox and the best way to ride the good luck wave is via Dior’s limited edition collaboration with American surf brand Stussy. After the success of their Fall 2020 collaboration, Kim Jones and Shawn Stussy come together again to pay homage to the Chinese New Year festivities. Symbols from the Year of the Ox in vibrant hues of red appear on a collection of jackets, hoodies, shirts, T-shirts, as well as the Dior B23 sneakers.
