“In Pursuit of Dreams” has been the theme of the year for Hermès. The surreal illustrated prints, bursts of fantastical colours, and wistful silhouettes have had us all daydreaming through the Spring-Summer season. Continuing this language of the weird and wonderful, the Maison have now introduced dream-inspired Autumn-Winter shoe collections for men and women. Featuring wings and movement as a recurring motif, these shoes are perfect for both exploring and putting your feet up to the clouds.

Dreams have always been central to the vision of Hermès artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas. “We are always dreaming”, he says, and now in 2019, “we will celebrate the dream of Hermès”. Celebrating the “dream” of Hermès means to appreciate the desire to see further, to open up the wildest of imaginations. Pierre Hardy, the Maison’s shoe designer for nearly 30 years, likes to interpret themes both literally and playfully. We all fell in love with his thematic shoes from last season’s collection – the adorable floating cut-out clouds on suede platform shoes were truly the footwear of dreams.

The new men’s and women’s shoe collections are crafted with a mix of textures, fabrics, leathers, and buckle finishings. And they’re all a subtle yet playful exploration of flight and playful movement. Inviting us to fly as if in our dreams, the shoes feature wing appliqués, floaty silk ribbons, and athletic energy. Men can enjoy some bold hybrid silhouettes as well as sporty contrasting graphic lines for a modern city touch. Meanwhile, the women’s collection is a whirl of emblematic prints and assertive heels that will have you soaring through the season.

Of course, Hermès itself was born out of a dream. It’s said that Thierry Hermès, born in Germany, longed to go to Paris to open his workshop. So, in 1820, he walked all the way from Germany to Paris to open the first Hermès atelier. Now, the Maison is celebrating this fateful dream-fuelled walk with a new dream-inspired shoe collection: shoes designed especially for the pursuit of dreams.

Preview some of our favourites from Hermès‘s “Dream” Autumn-Winter 2019 shoe collections below.
