As we swing into Spring, we can’t help but think about H&M’s summer collection to tick off our fashion bucket list for the season.
Were you missing the charm of the golden era of train travel? H&M heard us loud and clear and is unveiling its new ‘Conscious Exclusive’ Spring/Summer 2020 collection which has been inspired by the glamorous era.
The fashion giant has unveiled the Spring/Summer 2020 edition of its sustainable series, and this season’s look was inspired by Le Train Bleu, the sleeper train that ran from Calais to the Côte d’Azur in France in the 1920s.
The collection focuses on sustainability and circularity, championing responsible and ethical fashion and design processes. It nods to the elegance of the voyage via pieces such as a floor-length recycled polyester ball gown, a recycled taffeta mini dress, a recycled taffeta blouse and flat cocktail slippers featuring recycled glass beading leftover from a previous collection. The line also includes a bag made from the vegan leather alternative Vegea, which is composed of discarded grape skins and stalks. Additional fabrics used throughout the series include Circulose, a natural material produced from recycled textiles, and the recycled polyester Renu.
“The stimulus for SS20 was the idea of glamorous train travel, which the design team felt was wonderfully symbolic of H&M’s journey as a company towards circularity,” explained Ella Soccorsi, designer at H&M, in a statement. “We were inspired by Le Train Bleu, and the decadent creatives such as Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso hanging out at Villa Santo Sospir in Cap Ferrat. We wanted to propose a collection that played to that decadent, carefree time but also contained enduring designs our customers will love wearing daily.”
The collection, which will be available online and in select stores from March 26.
