Ring in the Year of the Dog with these Chinese New Year fashion pieces

Dressing in red during Lunar New Year is somewhat the norm. The bold hue is deemed to herald good luck, happiness and prosperity. It can also lead you on an adventurous sartorial escapade, stretching your limits, especially if colours beyond the safe neutrals aren’t your forte. Still, it tends to get tedious to plan your look around one colour every single year. If you’re looking to spice things up this time, why not dress in line with the Year of the Dog theme?

From Gucci’s Boston Terrier hoodies to Bottega Veneta’s Dachshund purses, we’ve selected the pup-bearing pieces you can shop in time for your Chinese New Year fetes. Below, the canines galore.

Gucci’s 63-piece capsule collection

This collection began when Helen Downie, a self-taught London artist who goes by the moniker of Unskilled Worker, gifted creative director Alessandro Michele a pillow illustrated with his two pet Boston Terriers, Bosco and Orso. These wide-eyed dog motifs are now embellished and embroidered onto 63 of Gucci’s eclectic classics: Women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, bags, accessories, shoes, and watches.

Dachshunds seem to be a fashion favourite. Outré menswear maestro Thom Browne has one named Hector, and this arm candy is a loving tribute to it.
